It's a religious philosophy that is older than Hinduism and Buddhism. The most important thing about the Jains is that they are COMPLETELY non-violent.

They have a similar version of Karma to Hinduism, believe in reincarnation (I think) and believe that liberation from reincarnation (enlightenment) is attained by ridding bad Karma through good actions and through extreme ascetic practices (almost self-harm!)

EDIT: not only <laughs> I didn't mention insects. I do know that Jains see Karma as a 'sticky substance' that adheres to the soul, which is why ones Karma in one life can affect the next. Some people see Jainism as another Hindu sect (which I think is unjustified because the Jain god pantheon is different).

They sweep the ground in front of them so they won't step on a bug.

Evolution is a cartload of nonsense and everyone knows it. The ones that cling to it are only for it because they think it gives them license to fornicate and murder babies via abortion.

Where are the world wide protest from Muslims for the Murders of these innocent people in the last 2 days . . .

Across the globe, from Thailand to New York, the Religion of Peace has been racking up one to two be headings a day. Piotr Stanczak, an innocent engineer from Poland, was brutally carved up amid a chorus of praise to Allah. ( No other religions appear interested in keeping pace).

Jainism exerted a strong influence on the people of India for many centuries.
Jainism books of religion were written in the Ardham?gdhi language, originated from Sanskrit.
The religious teaching and principles are based on Ahimy? - non-violence, no injury to any person, or living thing.
Satya - truth, avoiding all actions that are not based on truth.
Asteya - non stealing, never taking that which does not belong to one.
Brahmacharya - celibacy, all forms of any sexual indulgences shunned by the mind, speech and body.
Aparigraha - renunciation, no acquisition that is motivated by lust or greed.
The main Jain philosophy is Sy?dv?d which connotes that it cannot be said with certainty that a thing appears alike to all those who see it.
No animal sacrifices, and no eating of meat.
There are two main cults of followers in the Jain religion.
The Digambars who did away with clothes and remain naked.
And the Swet?mbars who wear white cloth.

Jainism is a spiritual philosophy that emerged shortly before Buddhism and probably influenced it. Its principle leader/founder is called Mahavir (Great Hero) and iconographic images of him are often mistaken for images of the Buddha. Elements of the philosophy include strict ahems (non-harm) to other living beings. They are strict vegetarians. Jainism technically is atheistic (like Buddhism), which does not mean that Jains or Buddhists do not believe in gods; they do, but their definition of what a god is differs from the idea in western monotheistic religion. They are categorized as atheistic because they do not believe that a supreme godhead is the cause of the manifestation of everything. They believe in the soul and that individual souls exist eternally and are subject to the law of karma. They share some scriptures with Hinduism.
