Jainism (pronounced in English as IPA [DE.n?zm?]), traditionally known as Jain Dharma (A A), is a diatomic religion and philosophy originating in Ancient India. The Jains follow the teachings of Tirthankaras. The 24Th Tirthankara Lord Mahavira lived in ca. 6Th century BC. A small but influential minority in modern India, with growing immigrant communities in the United States, Western Europe, Africa, the Far East and elsewhere, Jains continue to sustain the ancient Shraman (?????) or ascetic tradition.

Jains have significantly influenced the religious, ethical, political and economic spheres in India for more than two millennia. Jainism stresses spiritual independence and equality of all life with particular emphasis on non-violence. Self-control (????, vratae) is vital for attaining Keval Gnan and eventually moksha, or realization of the soul's true nature.

The Jains have an ancient tradition of scholarship. The Jains are the best educated religious community in India (Jains in India according to 2001 census), and the Jain libraries are India's oldest.

They believe everything has a soul pretty much, and don't believe in killing, anything!

I would rather call Jainism as a way of living. It isn't religion where one has to believe it, instead one has to keep faith in it. It is based on logical and scientific explanations of everything.

Many people have confusion that Jainism was founded by Mahavira in 349 BC, but instead it was re-founded by Mahavira who was the 24Th Tirthankar (Ford-maker) of this present descending cycle. There have been more 23 Tirthankars (Ford-makers) before him, even they preached Jainism to public as Mahavira did in this current descending time cycle (Avsarpini Kala).

Jainism says that every object in this Universe is categorized under these two categories. First is living object (Iva - every living being has some kind of life, so logically it has soul such as humans, animals, insects), and second is object that doesn't have life (Aviva - it doesn't have soul, such as table, chair, stone). It explains that every soul is wrapped in some kind of Karma (sum of all actions that individual has done, is doing, or will do - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karma) which can be either good or bad.

So individuals present and future thus depends on its Karma (actions), which summed due to actions taken during many previous lives. So that's why he may sometime experience happiness, pleasure due to his good actions in past or on the other hand sorrow, sadness due to bad actions in past.

Every soul who is entangled into any Karma, will have to experience the cycle of birth and death until all his Karma either good or bad are shed away. Once all Karma are she dded away the soul attain liberation to Moksha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moksha), which is known as blissful place. Liberation from this entangled world of Karma stands as main aim of Jainism.

Whatever I have wrote hear is my own understanding of Jainism, which I am practicing. You may not fully understand what I have wrote, but still I tried to made it simple. You may know from here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism
