Jainism, Buddhism and Hinduism are all different religions on their own. None is a sect of any. But all of them share quite similarities. This is with all other religion which are originated in India. (Note: Islam, Christianity doesn't have their origin in India).
Even Hinduism is not a religion itself, but a name used to combine small religions which share same similarities with each other. Such as Shivaism, Vishnuism, and many other similar.
The word Hinduism is introduced by Britishers during their ruling period, as they found themselves confused among so many religions existing under one country, so they started refereeing some of them with name Hindusim, because they share same beliefs & practices.
Due to this conflict created by Britishers, even today many Westerners confuse themselves on whether other Indian Originating religions are sects of Hinduism or not, which are of course not. And even many Indians don't know themselves about this conflict, which is a shame.
