Default Have you ever heard of Jainism? Many Christian ideas are based on Jainism, not Judais

Jains predate Christianity by about 1,000 years:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism

I only recently discovered Jainism and find it a very interesting philosophy or religion.

Jains are atheists who believe in an eternal universe and life cycles. They also promote non-violence, sharing with the less fortunate, compassion and other virtues that were incorporated into Christianity.

I'm not a Jain but it appears to be a very solid foundation for people who seek a religion but are tired of the continual bickering and fighting that accompanies all Bible based religions.
The Bible is a retelling of myths and legends that predated "Judaism" and Hebrews by thousands of years.

The Bible is a book of mythology.

Christianity is a pagan based religion that incorporated its doctrine from other religions.

Christianity did not exist as a religion until the 4Th Century.
To Son Shine:

Perhaps you should pick up a newspaper or read any headline story on Yahoo's main site that it titled "WAR ON TERROR" or related words.

The history of all Bible based religions is one of continual wars & violence. The entire Old Testament is little more than stories of war and violence.

Your assertion lacks foundation. Y!A's is a mild place compared to the real world where Jews, Christians & Muslims are daily murdering each other in the name of religion.
I am familiar with Wikipedia's origination and policies.

Articles that are corrupted are corrected and locked to prevent further corruption.

Ex.

"Because of recent vandalism, editing of this article by anonymous or newly registered users is currently disabled. Such users may discuss changes, request protection, or create an account."

Wikipedia was determined to be more accurate than the Encyclopedia Britannica.

But, if you want to discover more about Jainism you can use your search engine and find a website that pleases you.
Thanks for that excellent answer, Marti.

I am not really searching at this point in my life, but thanks for the advice. I came upon Jainism while researching something else And, it fascinated me how they could be atheists and spiritualists.

And, they stated as fact that energy & matter are the same thing, an idea that did not become popular until the 20Th Century and Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

Jains obviously knew something others did not....

Their idea of reincarnation is somewhat flimsy, but I can overlook that.

:-)

Pagan religions are copied FROM Christianity! Not the other way around. Satan went into the past to counterfeit Christianity in an attempt to 'spoil' Gods Plan.
Read your Bible.

God Bless.

Jesus is the truth, dint fall for Satan's trap.

I've only heard of Jainism through reading your questions and following the link you provide. I find it interesting but haven't looked deeper into it.

I have never heard of Jainism.

I also don't hear "continual bickering and fighting that accompanies all Bible based religions". I only hear the negativity coming from messages like these posted here on Yahoo trying to discredit Christianity.

All I can tell you is "Jesus is Lord" and He will prevail.

Interesting theory but incorrect.

First of all you say in your question that Jainism is atheistic but the Christianity is based on it? Highly doubtful because Christianity is extremely theistic.

Also, your time line is off, according to Jain sources on the web the beginnings of their philosophy is concurrent with the time of Musa (Moses) (as) not before it.

And Allah knows best.

Peace and Blessings,

Salim

Satan is a liar and chief of all deceivers. Denounce him now and save your eternal soul.

What is this Koppel'SOSes with an account to edit articles? Check it out. If you follow the link provided with this question, you will see a tab that takes you to an edit page. Not exactly normal encyclopedia practice, eh? I see many people use this wipePetareference; but where uninformed, unschooled edits may be made, it means nothing in the way of research.

Yes, actually you educated me on Jainism last week. Fascinating but I have a heavy work load in school but look forward to reading more on the subject.

The beauty of you is that you always stick to your guns and do your home work.

Jainism is traditionally known as Jain Dharma, and is a religion and philosophy originating in the Prehistory of South Asia.

Actually, Christianity copied from several pagan religions. I don't know why the answerer above claims that Jainism copied from Christianity! It just couldn't have historically happened that way,

I haven't looked into Jainism, but I will be checking it out soon. A couple of good books that touch on it are: "Misquoting Jesus" and "Holy Blood, Holy Grail"

Christians don't seem to really care to delve into the history of the Bible and find out what its sources really were or when and by whom it was really written. It's just so much easier to believe that it is the "word of God" and that they have an exclusive on God (totally missing the point of what Jesus taught). I am very certain now that most Christians don't really understand that which they think they believe. I have been delving for a long time and it is really fascinating.

Another philosophy you might be interested in is Religious Science of Mind founded by Ernest Holmes. I like his saying; "I thank the God that is that the God most people believe in isn't". RSc has some similarities to Christian Science and it sounds like maybe to Jainism as well (won't know until I check out Jainism). It certainly makes a lot of sense to me. Ernest Holmes took what he believed to be the core truth of the major religions of the world, including Christianity, stripping away the dogma and trappings and man created traditions surrounding it and from that put together RSc.

Feel free to email me directly if you would like to talk about Jainism or ask me any more about RSc. My email address is on my profile.
