Default What are some Orthodox Jewish views on evolution?

please don't do any name-calling.
keep an open mind
I disagree with so many of your answers. I'm orthodox and I can tell you that many rabbis (modern and ultra) believe 6-day creationism is not literal and that evolution was a process guided by HaKadosh Baruch Hu.

This is a complex question as evolution is not what some people think it is. Evolution in its true form does NOT say that man comes from a monkey. But that organisms evolve. For example what may start as a small bacteria, once we become immune to it may evolve into a larger and different type of bacteria. That sort of evolution IS believed in. But that man evolved from any sort of animal is NOT believed in by Orthodox Jews. We believe G-d created the world in six days (the actual length of a day is believed to be different than our 24 hour days) and that man (Adam and Eve) was created on the 6Th day as a unique, distinct species from the animals which were also created on the sixth day. Fish, birds and insects were created on the fifth day.

I learned about evolution in College as part of a Biology curriculum, and I saw no convincing evidence of its validity. Evolution is called a THEORY because it is not pr oven scientific facts.

Hope this answered your question.

Please see "Rejoice O' Youth" by Rabbi Avigdor Miller. He tears the concept of evolution to shreds. Traditional Judaism does not believe in the Darwin theory whatsoever.
