Moses is said to have written the first 5 books of the Old Testament. King David and King Solomon wrote some. The prophets are called major and minor prophets.

The Torah is the first 5 books of the Bible.. also known as the books of Moses... or the books of the law. Moses wrote the Torah.

The Torah was dictated by God to Moses over the period of 40 days on Mt Sinai.

The various books in Nevi'im and Ketuvim were written by different people shortly after the events they discuss, or are the collected writings of different people (such as Psalms)

The three together make up the Tanach (Torah, Nevi'im and Ketuvim) and are referred to as the old testament by non-Jews.
