christians and jewish? what do you think about the violence in some chapters of the B
that God wanted to destroy some nations and he said to the Israelites to destroy the pagans of the Land of Canaan and stuff like that.. I don't remember verses but also God will destroy our planet with fire according to the book of revelations is not God love? is not God good?
you must know the book of exodus..
God is love. God is good. That is why He saved us from eternal death through Jesus.
The penalty for sins is eternal death. God is Holy and a Judge. The result of rejecting God's love and eternal life is death.
He offers us a free gift; it is grace; it is unmerited favor; meaning we don't deserve it but He loves us anyway and offered a way to live forever. All we have to do is have faith; faith based on our love for Him
God handed out immediate judgment against sinful people in the Old Testament. They were an example of what happens to sinful people. He creates life and can destroy life. He is God.
I'm glad I live in this time of history known as Grace.
yes He is love and yes He is good. Cant wait for the Good God to destroy evil earth, and give faithful followers of Christ a perfect new earth.
You know honestly I strive everyday to make it but even if i dint i think God is so good to bring peace to all those who were after making this earth better by being righteous. Giving to charity is not being righteous for you can give to charity and continue to do the most wicked things.
Noah's Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, David and Goliath, maybe. But there are more than 100 others that are unknown to pretty much everyone. Did you know, for example, that God: *Forced friends and family to kill each other for dancing naked around Aaron's golden calf? *Burned complainers to death, forced the survivors to eat quail until it literally came out their noses, sent "fiery serpents" to bite people for complaining about the lack of food and water, and killed 14,700 for complaining about his killings? *Helped Samson murder thirty men for their clothes, slaughter 1000 with the jawbone of an ass, and kill 3000 civilians. *Smote Philistines with hemorrhoids in their secret parts? *Slowly killed a baby to punish David for committing adultery? *Killed 70,000 because David had a census that he (or Satan) told him to do? *Sent a lion to kill a prophet for believing another prophet's lie, another lion to kill a man for not smiting a prophet, and more lions to kill people that didn't fear him enough? *Killed 450 religious leaders in a prayer contest and burned 102 men to death for asking Elijah to come down from his hill? *Sent two bears to rip apart 42 boys for making fun of Elisha's bald head? *Killed Ahab for not killing a captured king, and then sent Jehu to kill all of Ahab's family and friends who had ever "pissed against a wall?" All of these killings, and more, are found in the Bible, and the God of the Bible is proud of each one. Here's what he said about them: "I kill ... I wound ... I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh." -- Deuteronomy 32:39-42 These stories fill the pages of the Bible, yet they are seldom read in church and are ignored by most Bible believers.
I'm Jewish: The book of Revelations is a Christian text that has nothing to do with us, so I'll leave that for the Christians to answer if they wish.
For the first part, Israel was to destroy the nations occupying the land who would not surrender, yes. At least one nation did surrender and was spared. Other nations attacked the Israelites trying to wipe them out, and did not succeed. It was a violent era, with national groups getting wiped out without a trace all over the world.
God is all knowing and just as well as merciful to those who love HIm. god told Abraham that he would be father of many nations and that in him all the world would be blessed. God also said to his him that Abe's people would be servants 400 years in a land they do not know and that God would give them the land of the Amorites but not yet because their sin was not complete. Israel during the famine in Josephs day brought 70 persons down to Egypt and they stayed there; after time the Egyptians forced them into bondage and God raised up Moses to deliver them. God told Moses to write down that God was not driving out the other nations because Israel was Holy but because the other nations were wicked. God gave them 400 more years to repent and they did not so the prophecy about them to Abraham was fulfilled. God also promised to keep Israel under the same penalty if they became like the other nations. They did and God judged them the same way. I think we see the justice of God and his mercy as He himself became man and took on the violence of men against himself to restore right relationship with God.
Contemplating the paradox between an ambivalent god and a jealous angry god can move us beyond the rational, to something beyond. Contemplating paradox usually does. That's why it is an activity so highly advocated by your average zen master on the street. The only problem comes in when you take metaphysical literature literally. The bible was, at least in terms of the Jewish Scriptures, compiled before a time when discrete genres were considered. Thus the bible was myth, legend, history, theology, science, farming tips, a fashion guide, civil and criminal codes, and much, much more all rolled into one. To take it literally at this point is to revert to a preliterate state of bronze age herders. By the time of the common era, most Jews, and in the next few centuries, most Christians, knew far better than to insist upon its being inerrant. No less a personage than St. Augustine warns against literal interpretations. No, biblical literalism is a relatively recent phenomenon.
yes God is love and he is good. but do not forget that God is just as well .no man on earth deserves to live. because we have broken Gods law of love. the whole of Gods law is love, and we have broken Gods law by not living in perfect love. we all deserve the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. but God has shown us great mercy through Christ.
why didn't God give the people at Sodom and Gomorrah or the Canaanites, mercy?I cannot not answer that. but I can tell you that mercy is not something that has to be fair. when a governing official gives a pardon, does that mean he has to pardon the whole prison?of course not, because it is an act of mercy. justice is fair, mercy does not have to be fair. so, be grateful for the mercy that God has given you today.
