Default When should I attend synagogue?

I am Jewish but not religious at all. I want to start attending services at least once a month. When would be the appropriate time to attend services?

The most appropriate time to go is when the greatest number of people are there to see you attending services thereby bolstering your religious cred in the community. You can also make more effective use of your time by doing some networking because some real mac hers go to services, especially on Saturdays. Shalom, buddy!

I would attend on Friday evenings; the Erv shabby services are usually the most upbeat and informal, and also usually have the highest attendance; you should fit in just fine. If you contact the synagogue office, you can probably find someone to sit with who can help you navigate the service (especially important if you're going to go to an orthodox synagogue).

Since I gather that you are someone who was born Jewish but who has never been religious, if you're thinking of becoming more active in a synagogue, you might want to make an appointment with the rabbi, and discuss your particular situation. Jews return to the traditions frequently, and he can help you learn more about your heritage if it's your wish to do so.

Enjoy!

The two best times would be either Friday night or Saturday morning. The advantage of Friday nights is that the services are a little shorter than the Saturday morning services.

While Orthodox services are entirely in Hebrew and your Hebrew reading skills might not be the greatest, it is very likely that someone would realize that you are fairly new to the services and help you out, as well as invite you home for a meal. You might also want to check out Aish to see if they have a center near you, as they have group meals following services, an excellent opportunity to learn about Judaism, socialize, and eat.
