Why is it illegal to build new churches, synagogues and non-Muslim places of worship
If building new mosques was banned in western countries, what would the Muslim community say?
Juexue- I heard even in secular Turkey and Algeria it's illegal, and they're definitely moderate compared to Wahabbists.
Making of Church or synagogue is not permissible in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, because firstly it is the Holy Land of Islam.
And secondly, the real population of that country is 100% Muslim.
But doing so is not unlawful in other Muslim countries. I live in Pakistan and we have all sorts of places of worships. Churches, synagogues and Mandirs. Many were made by people before Pakistan came into being who are no more here but nobody has touched them and they are being taken care of by Government of Pakistan. On the contrary, 40,000
Masjids were occupied and cover ted into places of residence in East Panjab (India) alone.
My brother, what is worse: shirk or murder? Obviously we can agree that shirk is the worse crime imaginable. Allah Forgives everything except shirk.
We can also both agree that murder is a major crime, correct?
From an Islamic standpoint, is it acceptable to construct a building where people gather to murder?
How then could it be acceptable to construct a building where people gather to worship other than Allah?
How could it be acceptable to spend the resources of Allah on a building whose use will be dedicated to shirk, Fr and disbelief in Allah while promoting lies against Allah's Prophets (SAWS)?
Allah Says:
?Help you one another in Al?Birr and At?Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression? (5:2)
BTW, not all "Muslim countries" have implemented this law.
As for the banning the construction of masked in Western nations, then it is their nations with their own laws which they apply for their own reasons.
The main difference is that Western nations are SECULAR and not religious.
If Western societies openly permit alcohol, gambling, pornography, indecency, homosexuality etc. why would they care about a masked?
Muslims can construct masked, Jews can construct Synagogues and Hindus can construct their temples etc.
Furthermore, because the West is capitalistic, they see these types of construction as the creation of jobs and stimulation for the economy.
If Western nations were religiously founded and governed, would Muslims even be living there?
EDIT: @ Y/A Staff Nazi:
"So you'll be OK with Israel bulldozing Al-Aqsa Mosque then, since it sits where the Jewish Temple belongs, right?"
The principle here is that it is not permitted to destroy churches or synagogues that already exist.
Umar bin Khattab (RA) refused to pray in a church in Jerusalem for fear that the Muslims would want to tear it down and build a masked since it would have been the first place the Ummah of Muhammad (SAWS) prayed on Jerusalem soil.
Instead he [rayed across the street and that is where masjid Umar bin Khattab still stands today. Across the street, the same church still stands today.
As for the Zionists, they don't have the guts to bulldoze masjid Al-Aqsa but rest assured this is their dream.
That's why they are covertly bulldozing underneath it so the foundation is weakened and their hope is that it will collapse (while also killing a few hundred Muslims inside which is a bonus for them).
I live in Jakarta the capital city of Indonesia where 90% of its population are Muslims In Indonesia to build new churches or non Muslim worship place is not prohibited. But they should ask permission to local government where the building will be built. The written permit will be given if there are many followers of the would be built worship place such as more than 100 Jamar. The permit will not be given in that area ,if the same worship place has been built or only a small portion of its followers live in its surrounding..So illegal building is a building for worship which has no written permit from the local government such a house is used silently as the worship place for certain religion without specific permit..Indo
Nelia will not Ban building non Muslim worship place as long as its requirements are met.
Not in Malaysia, I'm a Muslim but i attended a convent school where Islam IS taught and live next to a church and the State mosque and about 10 minutes drive away from the worlds largest Buddhist temple .
So no , i think Muslim countries are not so bad as the media makes it out to be with the exception of Saudi Arabia of cos but that ain't a Muslim country !
If a country is a theocracy, as opposed to a democracy, they can make any laws they choose.
In England, many years ago, it was only legal to be Catholic. Then Henry Vlll wanted an annulment from the Pope, and the Pope refused to grant it. So he left the Catholic Church and formed the Church of England and- you got it- it was only legal to belong to that church.
That's why our founding fathers put "no state church" as one of the first parts of the constitution.
This is a very long topic in the Islamic "Fiqh" and the right decision differs according the geography and history. It really depends on the population of the country. Also, on the relationship (3Had) of that nation with Muslims.
The common rules, if there are churches, don't destroy it, but don't build new ones.
In Arabian Pinnansula, the heart of Islam, it was the prophet will that don't mix 2 religions in it.
There is a big difference you forgot about Musilm vs. Non Muslim communities. There is a clear separation of religion from state in the west. Religion is really just a lifestyle. If you want to compare Muslims vs Non Muslims tolerance, then compare Europe few hundred years ago.
It's illegal just in some modern, fundamentalist (Wahhabi's-inspired) Muslim countries.
EDIT: do you have any sources that building churches is illegal in Algeria and Turkey? I remember visiting a few newly-built Catholic churches in Turkey about 15 years ago, but of course it might be easier for "outside" religions like Roman Catholicism, as opposed to the different strains of more "local" churches like Armenian and Syrian Orthodox. However, in Turkey the problem is not religion, but the special Turkish kind of state nationalism, which strives for total Turkification of the minorities and secularization of everyone (including the Turks themselves, of course). In Turkey all religions have problems, including Islam.
And just as in Turkey, the Algerian government is secular (as you say) and strongly nationalistic, which also there leads to forced assimilation of minorities. And just like in Turkey, all religions, including Muslims, are kept in tight reins, and totally banned from political activities.
But if you are right (and I want to see some sources before I'm sure you're right), not only some fundamentalist Muslim countries have that ban, but also some secular, anti-religious countries. But of course their legislation far from Islamic, neither fundamentalist, nor moderate.
Pakistan has a lot of churches, temples and synagogues. Turkey has, i know there are churches in Algeria, in the UAE, Qatar just opened the doors of the first church in their country recently..... (yes it was newly build!).
There are even discussions with Saudi Arabia right now about the opening of a church there soon.
So..... Christians can practice their faith in many Muslim countries already and even in the more 'strict' Muslim countries things seem to change slowly but surely!
it's not illegal in Pakistan(with christian,Zoroastrian and Hindu communities) or Iran(with Zoroastrian and Jewish communities) or former soviet central Asia(with lots of Christians). i cant imagine any country doing it except Saudi Arabia
I think that enough people have responded to the first part of your question, so I would like to answer the second part "If building new muskie's was banned in western countries, what would the Muslim community say", Nothing, no would they do anything.
Why do we need a new Musjid, is it not the musked within the heart that is more important to say your prayers from. Why can we not meet within an open area and say our prayers in Jamat, with our foreheads touching the earth as they should? How many muskies have you been in that have bright patterned carpets which distract you from your prayers, or bright painted or tiled walls.
Most muskies that I know do not even line up to the correct line of prayer, so that more people can be accommodated within it for prayers. The people who have built it have done so not out of faith but rather self gratification and glory of what they have achieved. Do we need muskie's, or schools for our children to attend? We may have many muskie's but very few free schools.
Building more muskie's would lead us into further secularization and separation. We really need something to bring us all closer together, so a ban would in some way unite us all, Insha'Allah.
