Default when was the talmud written? Could jesus have known about it?

Viki says that the Talmud was written after 70 CE after the destruction of the the temple from knowledge/opinions that were previously passed down orally.

so my question is: did Talmudic opinions exist around Jesus' time? Did he know of these opinions?

The practices of the `Babylonian Talmud` were already in place at the time of Jesus, the Pharisee`s practiced it and this is why Jesus was so hard on them calling them a `Brood of vipers``
To better understand the reasons why, it is necessary to read this book.

Or read the very in depth study by Elizabeth Dilling which can be printed out at this link; http://www.come-and-hear.com/dilling/index.html

I do not need to look at Wikipedia to know that the Talmud was written after 70CE. (I have submitted additions and corrections to Wikipedia.)It tells what Jews then thought of Jesus and covers things that happened before Jesus' time. Many of the opinions in it but not all surely existed before Jesus.

Yes. The Oral Law (Talmud) was transmitted orally by Moses to his successors from generation to generation according to the method outlined by Moses as heard from G-d. It includes rulings, laws and teachings on the Torah's verses, and existed 1500 years before Jesus. Serious students would have known it.

The Oral Law, Talmud, was written down in the 3rd Century CE (see Source below) at the direction of Judah the Prince. Previously it had been illegal to commit to writing. This law to keep the Oral Torah transmitted orally was overturned because of persecution and hardship in the exile, namely the fear that it might be lost altogether.

Here is an article by Rabbi Segal who has a table showing references in the NT that correspond to Talmud: http://rabbiarthursegal.blogspot.com/2008/01/talmudic-discourse-15.html

(That tract ate in the Talmud also mentions Saul-Paul the student of Gamliel).

Thanks for the post Sentinel - interesting too. Sometimes I will read parts of my bible to my daughter - NT is easier. Even my daughter will make comments about how the Jewish leaders behaved. "why did that make them angry and from then on they plotted to kill him? why does it say that?" She notices it too. The Jews were against there own kind and apparently the Romans listened to Jewish authority figures as well from just reading a word here or there you can see that clearly. Asker I think Jesus knew about the oral tradition because a Jew would know and be brought up with the knowledge.

What was written down was oral traditions of Judaism. So, anyone knowledgeable at the time would have known of them.
