Do you think every nation shall bow down to the Mormon gospel as Joseph Smith predict
ALL NATIONS SHALL BOW: March 1831. D&C 49:9-10. The nations of the earth shall bow to the Mormon gospel or they "shall come down" and "shall be laid low of power."
FULFILLMENT: None of the nations of the earth have accepted the Mormon gospel or "bowed" to it, yet none have been "laid low" because of it.
That saying is similar to the Jehovah's Witnesses..... However, on the other hand Christians declare that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the hon our and glory of God. Romans 14:11.
Perhaps if Mitt Romney had become President. Lucky us - that was a close one! LOL!
Let's face it, Roman Catholics control the Supreme Court, Evangelicals and Baptists control the armed services and attempt to control the Republican Party and the Congress, and we had a Mormon make a bid for the Executive Branch. It would be great to actually live in a country where people did not attempt to use the instruments of government to push their religious agendas on the rest of the country under the guise of "values." We all know that "values" is a code word for "my religious beliefs" that someone wants to impose on everyone else.
Any Gospel that puts man in fear and guilt just to obtain power and control over the minds can be considered the works of Satan. As Jesus claimed the neither he nor all the God's angel know when the sign of the end will happen because only the Father is a sign enough that we have to continue our lives in the grace of God and no One should live in fear and guilt unless he knows the errors he has committed/.
But saying sorry and walking in righteousness after that is what God has commanded. Therefore you must live out of fear and guilt.
Um, people from just about every nation have accepted the gospel actually. We have missionaries in almost every country converting people.
The world ain't over yet.
Yes, but not in the sense most people seem to think.
Mind you, this is my own personal thoughts, and not the LDS church's.
We believe the LDS church has the FULL restored gospel, uncorrupted by man. The other Christian faiths are awesome, but we believe we have the entire truth. We also believe everyone will have the opportunity in this life or the next to accept God's truth in its entirety. Possibly this bow down will be fulfilled after the Resurrection, after everyone has the opportunity for the fullness of God.
Also, the words "bow down" depend on what sense you are taking them. If you think it means convert and have the government become Mormon, I doubt it. It sounds more like -to me- bowing down out of respect. One can argue whether any nation has already. If it's meant out of respect, then I will have to say quite a few have. President Hinckley and the LDS church have done a lot of humanitarian work and help for other countries and have been recognized in various nations. Also, what is meant by "accepted" when you say "None of the nations of the Earth have accepted the Mormon gospel" is arguable. obviously its being "accepted" somewhere if it exists. Mormon missionaries are all over in other countries, so people of other nations are obviously accepting it.
I guess it all depends on interpretation.
i remember this verse. i dint think its quoted properly.
there is a reference that the world would come to the places of the temple from all over the world, that part of the prophecy is come true. but i think it applies only to the members of the church not to all the world.
that may even be yet a different prophecy.
but the verse below discuss a different interpretation in my opinion. there is a difference between the nations bowing down and All individuals who exalt themselves but which will be made low. I think these verses talk of the everlasting covenant which is only in the LDS church, but does make a distinguishing difference between men of sin who cannot come unto this covenant.
This is happening and will continue to happen until the Savior comes. Everyone has agency and unfortunately are led into the midst of darkness and dark dead end paths, metaphorically speaking.
God loves all His children. He has the Gospel going forth to help us. It's up to you to accept it.
well, that's because the 2ND coming hasn't come yet.......
if i somehow meet you after the second coming if we're both still alive by then, we could have a good discussion. (but the odds of that are one in a million :P)
If you actually read the entire passage, it doesn't say the nations of the earth shall bow to the Mormon gospel (it wouldn't say that anyway because it's the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). It is referring to when Christ comes again, and His rule over His people. Just as in the Bible, it simply says that when that happens, everyone will be subject to it. Nowhere does it say people will be brought low by the "Mormon gospel" but by the power of Christ.
This is referring to when Christ rules on the Earth after He comes again, and those who exalted themselves on Earth (I.E. kings, movie stars, etc.) will lose their power.
We proclaim to have the foulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Indeed we profess to be the Church of Jesus Christ.
We go by the name the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
We proclaim all nations shall bow to Him, and His covenants or be laid low. "The time is not yet but is nigh at hand."
PS here is the real quote, also in context.
D&C 49
" 5 Thus saith the Lord; for I am God, and have sent mine Only Begotten Son into the world for the redemption of the world, and have decreed that he that receiver him shall be saved, and he that receiver him not shall be damned?
6 And they have done unto the Son of Man even as they listed; and he has taken his power on the right hand of his glory, and now reignite in the heavens, and will reign till he descends on the earth to put all enemies under his feet, which time is nigh at hand?
7 I, the Lord God, have spoken it; but the hour and the day no man North, neither the angels in heaven, nor shall they know until he comes.
8 Wherefore, I will that all men shall repent, for all are under sin, except those which I have reserved unto myself, holy men that ye know not of.
9 Wherefore, I say unto you that I have sent unto you mine everlasting covenant, even that which was from the beginning.
10 And that which I have promised I have so fulfilled, and the nations of the earth shall bow to it; and, if not of themselves, they shall come down, for that which is now exalted of itself shall be laid low of power.
11 Wherefore, I give unto you a commandment that ye go among this people, and say unto them, like unto mine apostle of old, whose name was Peter:
12 Believe on the name of the Lord Jesus, who was on the earth, and is to come, the beginning and the end;
13 Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, according to the holy commandment, for the remission of sins;"
Joseph Smith never said that. He said every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is the Christ. But not everybody who does so will become a "Mormon."
Brigham Young clarified this:
"In the millennium men will have the privilege of being Presbyterians, Methodists or Infidels, but they will not have the privilege of treating the name and character of Deity as they have done heretofore. No, but every knee shall bow and every tongue confess to the glory of God the Father that Jesus is the Christ." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 12, p. 274.)
AGAIN, another longer quote by Brigham Young:
"When the kingdom of Heaven spreads over the whole earth, do you expect that all the people composing the different nations will become Latter-day Saints? If you do, you will be much mistaken.
"Do you expect that every person will be destroyed from the face of the earth, but the Latter-day Saints? If you do, you will be mistaken. Many of our Elders labor under these erroneous expectations when reading over the sayings of the Apostles and Prophets in regard to the coming of the Son of Man.
"They will ask, ?If I bow the knee and confess that he is that Saviour, the Christ, to the glory of the Father, will you let me go home and be a Presbyterian?? ?Yes.? ?And not persecute me?? ?Never.? ?Won?t you let me go home and belong to the Greek Church?? ?Yes.? ?Will you allow me to be a Friend Quaker, or a Shaking Quaker?? ?O yes, anything you wish to be, but remember that you must not persecute your neighbors, but must mind your own business, and let your neighbors alone, and let them worship the sun, moon, a white dog, or anything else they please, being mindful that every knee has got to bow and every tongue confess. When you have paid this tribute to the Most High, who created you and preserves you, you may then go and worship what you please, or do what you please, if you do not infringe upon your neighbors.? " (Journal of Discourses, vol. 2, pp. 315-17.)
