People make fun of other people when they are different and don't understand why. Same goes with religions. If you don't understand it, you make fun of it. Not a good idea.

I agree that it is wrong to put other people down because of their religion or lack thereof. I think people do it because they are not secure in their own beliefs.

religion is just an excuse for rules without relationships. the bible must be the basis for every belief because it holds the absolute truth about Jesus Christ. We as Christians are not supposed to judge people. But it is our duty to correct people who are wrong. Some people can receive this the wrong way.

I think the main reason is that they do not understand and are not willing to open their hearts and minds to learn about it. It is just easier for them to poke fun at the things they know nothing about.

I don't think anyone should make fun of anyone else. Making fun of people is rude and immature, especially when they're asking a serious question.

I think it's the basic understanding that some people do not see religion the same as some atheists. I'm an ex-evangelist Christian and I can tell you, there was a lot of put downs. The thing is that religion in scientific terms is something created by man to instill a sense of hope and faith. But because every religious person wants to think their religion is truth, they will pound on others. It's been going on since the Crusades, and it's all about misunderstanding what religion really is.

Because their houses of worship teach them that they are superior because they are the only ones who know the true path.

I don't put down religions--but do get annoyed at a few who try to force themselves down your throat--Mormons are one of those groups, as are Jehovah's Witnesses, and more.

fir ts off Mormonism goes against traditional Christianity and some of its ritual is a bit esoteric in nature and Joseph smith has been pr oven a layer is some of his supposed translations of his so called golden plates so you tell me should Mormonism be made fun of as a silly and twisted version of true Christianity i think so.

Ummm.... because Mormons are fairly intense and strange and won't date outside their sect. I mean, we like being able to experiment in the modern world. A Mormon give sup a heck of a lot of stuff and if you ask a Mormon a whole lot of questions about their religion, you get to a whole lot of, "I don't know"s- scares the crap out of me.

I don't make fun, I run in fear of people believing in something they don't seem to understand. Maybe it's just been the 30 or 40 Mormons I've asked.

It is true that when things are different from the norm people are afraid, feel insecure. Because they don't understand, they assume the other is doing something wrong, crazy, nuts, stupid, and all the other names that those outside the norm get called. it always has been that way and see no immediate end to it. It is unfortunate and it shows lack of feeling for another, and that is what makes the trouble in the world, lack of feeling, understanding.

It is up to an individual how they treat others equally and have empathy and respect. If you had bad experiences with Mormons, I apologize for them. I'm a Mormon, but I don't have any ill feelings for other religions. Everyone has the right to believe and live what they believe and God loves them equally. Everyone's different. I try to look at every religion's goodness es and learn to improve myself. I don't think you should generalize and pick on MOrmons. OUr leaders encourage us to respect every religion and treat others the way we wanna be treated.

If teaching the Bible is making them feel like they are being put down they need to take that up with God.

As Jesus once said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Everyone seems to put down those who are different, including those of your faith. Folks in my faith certainly do it.

I think the Quakers have it right because they have no priests or other clergy. They believe that everyone relationship with God should be direct and one-on-one. Then there's no dogma or scripture to tell you what to do, let alone a church hierarchy. It's just you and God talking to each other.

But of course when you don't need the church, the church starts to freak out because then you're not tithing and giving them money, let alone authority and power over your life. The kind of thinking the Quakers have gets you into trouble.

The reason people put down other religions is that they are ashamed of giving up so much power to their leaders, so that they justify it by belittling others who don't share their submission.

My recommendation is that if you really wish to be close to God through Christianity, then the Quaker path is probably the most direct. If you're willing to look outside Christianity, then I recommend starting with Taoist thought which is essentially a call to live in harmony with Life. That's not a bad notion for people of any faith.

Coolness.

You are correct. It is wrong. The problem is ecclesiastic faith is one of the cornerstones of how we perceive ourselves. Anyone who's faith is incompatible with our own calls it into question. We defend our faith by ridiculing and belittling that difference to make ourselves more comfortable and confident in our own belief systems.

No one should make fun of a religion and yet religion does not get us to Heaven. Jesus Christ Himself told us "that HE is "the Way". Repenmtance of our sins and faith in Jesus Christ gets us to heaven. This also means we should have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Back to people criticizing a religion like the Mormons;
Speaking for Christians anyway, Christians with strong convictions usually if they are being true Christians base everything they believe on the Bible including the Gospels of Jesus Christ and the writings of the Apostles.
When a Christian shares truth from the Holy Bible, they are not making fun of another religion but sharing Biblical truth even if that differs from sects of Chritianity or other religions.

Sincerely in Christ,
Rev. Bill (Internet Pastor)

I'm a Mormon and I absolutely hate it when people make fun of my religion and they have no idea what they're talking about. For example people who say things like oh Joseph Smith is a liar (and yes I can spell LIAR) and they've never read Joseph Smith history or even read the book of Mormon, and they just judge on what they've HEARD. If you're going to judge another religion at least look up in an encyclopedia what they believe! And what's so funny about being Mormon anyway? NO! We're not polygamists, if we believe we need to follow the laws of the land and polygamy is illegal, why would we still do it? and not all Mormons date just other Mormons, although it starts to make sense when people make up stuff that isn't true about you, why would you want to date them? GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT

I'm a Christian I certainly know what it's like to be made fun of and it just stinks...

It's not OK to make fun of somebody for anything. The Bible teaches us to say and do all things out of love, and for edification.

Lord bless

The cult of Joseph Smith, swindler and charlatan, who referred to his own followers as dupes. Joseph Smith born 1805 known to his neighbors as an untruthful, trouble making boy, given to pretended feats of magic and digging for buried treasure. At twenty-one was hauled into court as a disorderly person and impostor, pretended that an angel named Moroni sent by god revealed to him a sacred book written on gold plates, that he found in a stone box with a sword and breast plate. He pretended to have dictated the contents without unwrapping the plates, which only passages that possess any dignity are borrowings from the King James Bible, when pressured to produce these plates Smith said they were taken back to heaven. Smith was murdered in 1844 in an Illinois jail when he was thirty-nine being held for burning down the press of a newspaper that printed articles about him that he did?t care for.
