Talk to a Morman Missionary. they are around. Get "The Book Of Morman" and read. Look it up in references about religions.

From what I'm told that god is just a spiritual being that has grown in power and wisdom over the eons to the point he was able to create our universe.

And that we to have the potential to do such.

Other than that it's like Christianity with diff rent views of heaven, hell, and sin.

That Native Americans are the decedents of Jesus and the book of Mormon was delivered by God to their leader Joseph Smith who was the only one who could translate it. Silly really if you think about it.

It's very much a business, as was shown on a Time magazine cover not so long ago.

I used to be one... when I was a kid. It's strange that I never really was aware what they believed, but I do think of God as they do... as I read some of these answers.

One of the main differences in Mormon doctrine is that they believe in Revelation today. That is, God speaking with man here on Earth in our day. They believe that after Jesus and all of the Apostles where killed the Earth went into what is called the Great Apostacy aka Dark Ages. Mormons believe the Everalsting Gospel was restored through the Prophet Joseph SMith. You can learn the official beliefs and doctor ins at their official website. LDS. org I think. Do a Google just in case.

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

1 WE believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2 We believe that men will be punished for their own? sins, and not for Adam?s transgression.

3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind? may be saved?, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith? in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the fr emission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5 We believe that a man must be called? of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of ch ands by those who are in authority, to preach? the Gospel and administer in the ordinances? thereof.

6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation? of tongues, and so forth.

8 We believe the Bible to be the word? of God as far as it is translated ccorrectly?; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal? many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10 We believe in the literal gathering? of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion? (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign? personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11 We claim the aprivilege? of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship? how, where, or what they may.

12 We believe in being subject? to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law?.

13 We? believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing egood to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul?We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Mormons believe in these scriptures:
Bible, The Book of Mormon, The doctrine and covenants, and Pearl of Great Price. They believe Jesus visited the ancient north Americans. A missionary would better be able to explain everything but also the book "The complete idiot's guide to Christianity" has a chapter on it that gives a rough idea. You can also go to the website WNW.lds.org that is the church's official website.

I am a Latter-Day Saint (otherwise known as Mormons). We believe in God, the Eternal Father and in His son,Jesus Christ. We believe that they appeared to Joseph Smith when he was but 14 years old which begun the Restoration of the fullness of the gospel and the church which the Savior established when he was yet on earth. We believe in the Book of Mormon (another witness of the reality of the life and ministry of the Savior). Some people think we're not Christians but we LDS "believe in Christ, talk of Christ, rejoice in Christ". Thanks for asking, hope I've helped.

As a member of that faith, I laughed out loud when I read the answer that said Mormons only believe Jesus is prophet. That's the Muslims, not the Mormons. Most other answers I've seen posted here are equally off-base.
For a website actually discusses what Mormons really believe, try http://www.mormon.org/

I know that the Mormouns believe than having a multitude of wives is allowed - because that is what Joseph Smith did.

The Mormons do not read verses from the Bible... they have their own source for their preaching.

arias couldn't be more wrong...

The "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" will ex-communicate a member for practicing in polygamy. The church banned it in 1890. Any church that practices polygamy is not affiliated with the mainstream LDS church. In fact, the term "Mormon" has been reserved for exclusive use for the main LDS sect. Any smaller fundamentalist church that branched off decades ago does not have the right to use the name.

In addition the Bible is heavily referenced throughout the teachings in the Church. The Book of Mormon is just another testament of Christ that shadows a lot of the same that is told in the New Testament, with some additional doctrine. It is in no way viewed as a replacement.

Many Christians that have taken the time to attend a Sunday Sacrament meeting or research Mormon beliefs are often stunned to find so many similarities. Unlike some other churches out there, the LDS church welcomes all religions to join in anytime, to ask questions, and does not discriminate.
