Default Mormonism and the U.S. government?

I've heard that LDS church is the religion that the U.S. government favors. Moreover, I remember reading some article which said that LDS members working for government get credit for their strict religious ethic codes and Mormon nationalism such as the belief that the U.S. Constitution was the creation of blessing or some insight give by God. Is it true that the government has good impression on LDS church?
Edit1-> Yes, I know that there were some conflicts be ween Mormons and the US government. But what I'm asking is the current situation.

Well, the Mormons are the only religion the US government ever sent an armed expedition against, unless you count the Branch Davidians.

I don't know about the govt - but my wife always said (when she ran a tax-preparing office in Las Vegas) that all of her best employees were Mormon. They didn't drink, they didn't gamble, and they were not late for work.

Does this mean anything? I don't know. It was just her observation.

If that's true, why did President Buchanan send federal troops into Utah when he thought they were going to try to break away?

Many organizations, including the FBI and CIA are very Mormon friendly because many Mormons have served missions in foreign countries so they know many diff languages and the strict moral code they live by makes them good candidates as well. J Edgar Hoover really had a favorable impression of Mormons.

The church is one of the first people the govt turns to to help coordinate disaster reliefs because we already have an extensive disaster relief organization in place, as well as emergency preparedness.

I dint think its the beliefs of the church that makes them more favorable, but the organizations they have in place and the attributes they have because of their membership.

This isn't always true, however. Bill Clinton did not invite the Mormon tabernacle choir to be at the inaugural parade nor did he ever invite the church leaders to any prayer meetings. The previous presidents, Reagan and Bush, along with President Bush now, has and still does include the LDS church leaders.

This is current. In the past of course the govt was not so friendly. But even Abraham Lincoln had very favorable things to say about mormons and felt they should be left alone.

The Constitution forbids the U.S. government from giving special treatment to any one religion or sect.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints promotes many values that various government agencies are after. Mormons tend to be clean cut, honest, and have high work ethics. Many Mormons learn a foreign language on their mission for the Church. Mormons also value education (the glory of God is intelligence). These traits may explain why there are so many Mormons working in the various agencies.

The U.S. government does not favor Mormonism. The only good impression the Mormons gave is when they formally denounced polygamy (but secretly still practiced it) in order to receive statehood. This was after the Utah
War the Mormons fought against the U.S. and the Mountain Meadows Massacre September 11, 1857, a mass killing of 120 unarmed emigrants by the Mormon militia after they surrendered to the Mormons. For a decade prior to the Mountain Meadows massacre, the Utah Territory existed as a Mormon theocracy, not democracy.
