Default How big were the golden plates that joseph smith read?

Becuase from what I understand they would not have fit in his hat.
Actually, there is proof of alto of stuff in the bible. Histical re cored and documentation.......I used to be a skeptic myself..
DONT YOU NEED THE STONES TO TRANSLATE THE PLATES? DONT YOU LOOK THROUGH THE STONES TO LOOK AT THE PLATES?????????

There is no proof they ever existed ... just like the basis for Christianity.

Of course, I could be wrong....

...but do you really think that ole Smitty was the most honest man in New York at the time? I sort of got the feeling that this was a bit of a scam he was running - sort of a rabbit-in the-hat trick.

He 'said' he dug up the plates and then he 'said' they were 'lost or stolen' but he didn't know much about that, did he?.... Isn't there an outside chance that what he said wasn't all that reliable?

Gosh.... I sort of think so... I'd even go as far as saying that Joey-boy was either lying through his eff in' dentures or that he was nuttier than last year's eff in' Almond Joy bar. The bottom line, however, is that he was a Christian first of all.... so what's the difference between swapping-out one set of delusional fairy tales for another? BS by any other name would still smell like chit.

There were no plates. That whole religion was made up by a scamming charlatan pedophile polygamist.

Not a Mormon here, and have no idea. But when I read the question the song from Willy Wonka "I've got a golden ticket" popped into my head.

I am Christian, and consider Joseph Smith to be a nut-case. I read a history of the Mormon Church and his story is preposterous. It does not line up with the Bible.

The plates were not in his hat. The stone that he used to translate them was in his hat.

There is very little information available on the size of plates. They are typically depicted as about the size of a very thick Bible. But basically we don't know.

The gold plates did not go into Joseph's hat, but the Urim and Thummin ( or translators) did. So you cannot assume that the plates would be so small to thus fit in a hat. It is known that they were of a weight that was difficult for an average man to "heft" so I would assume that they were the size of a very heavy book.

i couldn't find the scripture i wanted to help explain. but, from what i understand like 5 or 6 school textbooks wide (from front page to last). they were pretty huge. oh, and for the record Joseph smith was a stud. worked on a farm all his life. at least 6'5", maybe taller i cant remember exactly. good build.
