Default who do Mormons think jesus is?

I have heard that Mormons believe Jesus is just an angel, but not actually god. Is this true? Who do they think Jesus is? Please be as detailed with your answer as possible. Also please state how you know your answer. For example, if you are Mormon, say that you are. 10 points best answer.

Jesus Christ is the central figure of Mormon doctrine and practice. His is the central name in the true name of the Mormon Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Every converted member of the Church (often referred to as a "Mormon") holds a firm testimony that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world, and a knowledge that only through His sacrifice in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross can mortal man be saved in the Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ and His teachings are the central focus of all Mormon scripture, the Book of Mormon, the Bible, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

In January 2000, Mormon President Gordon B. Hinckley and the other Apostles of the Mormon Church published The Living Christ as their testimony to the world about Jesus Christ. It reads in part:

We bear testimony, as His duly ordained Apostles?that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.

~The Living Christ

Mormons are believers in the divine mission of Jesus of Nazareth and followers of His teachings. Many anti-Mormons and ex-Mormons attack the Church and claim that it is not Christian, because its teachings about Jesus differ from mainstream, traditional Christian teachings. There are, of course, differences between Mormon doctrine and Protestant and Catholic teachings, just as there are differences among the various Christian denominations. Mormonism teaches that its doctrines were restored to earth by Jesus Himself through living prophets after many centuries of apostasy in the world. Mormonism rejects the various medieval and modern creeds promulgated by the Christian world after Christ's death, because the Mormon Church has revelations from God Himself about who He is.

"I'm not a Mormon. I'm a Jew!"

Then somebody told you wrong. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he died on the cross for our sins. He taught his gospel in the east as well as the ancient Americas. The Nephites were the other sheep Christ spoke of that he said "are not of this fold". Jesus Christ is the Messiah. He is the one who is the way. His name is the name we pray in to God the Father.

Joseph Smith was a con man. People paid him money to find treasures. His excuse for not finding treasure was it was guarded by spirits. He was arrested as a "juggler," or "con man." He was brought before a justice of the peace. The judge ascertained that there was enough evidence to try him. This was in Bainbridge, N.Y., in 1826, The judge was Albert Neely. Smith was labeled a "glass looker". The evidence against Smith was sufficient that, if Smith had not left town, he would have been judged guilty. Smith then went on and fabricated the Book of Mormon. He got his idea for the book from Ethan Smith's View of the Hebrews, or "The Tribes of Israel in America".He supposedly used a pair of spectacles to "translate" the plates for the Book of Mormon, friends and relatives said he used the same stone he used in his former money digging scheme. The gold plates never existed according to a witness. An early Mormon convert heard Harris say "I never saw the plates." Details can be found in "Joseph Smith and the Origins of the Book of Mormon", by David Persuitte. There has not been found one piece of archaeological evidence to support the story of ancient America found in the Book of Mormon. In the 1950s, the LDS church financed "the largest archaeological project ever funded by a religious institution" It was successful in that it uncovered an enormous amount of archaeological information about ancient America, but as far as providing any evidence for the Book of Mormon, it was a failure. That has not been changed by any subsequent archaeological findings. In his book, Losing a Lost Tribe: Native Americans, DNA, and the Mormon Church, Simon G. Southerton shows that the American natives show no evidence of Israelite descent, which contradicts what the Book of Mormon says. Joseph Smith had an eye for women, so he instituted plural marriage and took over 50 wives, some of them the wives of other men. Mormon doctrine: God was once a man He has a body of flesh and bone and lives on a planet near the star Kolob. The sun gets its light from the Kolob. God has at least one wife, our "Mother in Heaven," but she is so holy that we are not to discuss her nor pray to her. We can become like God and rule over our own universe. There are many gods. In the highest degree of the celestial kingdom men have more than one wife. A righteous Mormon will see the face of God in the Mormon temple. If a Gentile becomes Mormon, the Holy Ghost actually purges his Gentile blood and replaces it with Israelite blood. . Jesus was married. Jesus and Satan are brothers, They are our brothers. We are spirit children of Heavenly Father. Jesus was conceived by God by having sex with Mary. We should not pray to Jesus. The "Lord" in the Old Testament is Jesus in the New Testament, but different from "God the Father". Christ will not return to earth in any year that has seen a rainbow. Before coming to this earth we lived as spirits in a "Prue-existence", in which we were tested. Dark skin is a curse from God, the result of our sin or our ancestors sin. If righteous, a dark-skinned person will become light-skinned. Not only will humans be resurrected to eternal life, but also all animals. All humans before the Flood lived in the western hemisphere. The Ark transported Noah to the eastern hemisphere. Mormons should avoid traveling on water, Satan rules the waters. You can identify a false angel by the color of his hair, or by offering to shake his hand. American Indians are "descendants of Lehi", but there is not a hint of the Hebrew language in any of the Indian dialects. The Garden of Eden was in Missouri. The Book of Mormon says that Lehi found horses in America. Horses did not exist in the Americas until the 16Th century. The Book of Mormon says that Nephi had a bow of steel. Jews did not have steel in this time period and iron was not smelted in the Americas until Spaniard arrived. The book of Mormon mentions "swords and cimeters." Scimitars were not around until the rise of Islam (500A.D.) The Book of Mormon mentions silk. This did not exist in the Americas at this time. In D&C 130:3 it says, "The idea that the Father and the Son dwell in a man's heart is an old sectarian notion, and is false."

No, its not true. You are confusing Mormons with JW's. They believe Jesus was an angel, not Mormons. I know, I know. You seen one cult, you've seen them all..... I completely understand. But its half right. Mormons don't believe Jesus is God either. Only Christians understand that completed concept.

Jesus is fully God, and fully man. Yes, that's what the Lord revealed to me long ago. AFTER I left the LDS organization. I asked God for the real truth, and He gave it.

".... because the Mormon Church has revelations from God Himself about who He is."
---So says a con-man, well known for lying for money. We have his "word" about these revelations, not backed up by the bible or even at times, their own book of Mormon, which Smith wrote. They accept it because he claimed it was from their god.

Jesus is their personal son of their man-god, brother to Satan who must also be a god, BTW. If Jesus is a god, then so is Satan. Same dad and (human goddess) mom. It must follow. Right? Other universes have their own man-gods and man-god sons called Jesus and Satan, too.

Mormonism doesn't share Jesus with any other churches. He's theirs alone. Jesus said so, and then they informed us what He said. And I suppose that came directly from the lips of God to Joseph Smith's shell-like ear, too?

Right. There's this fancy piece of work called the Brooklyn Bridge, and its for sale. Get your checkbooks out, folks!

We don't believe Christ and God are the same person, but we certainly don't believe Christ is just an angel, either. He's the Son of God, our Savior, the only way back to God after this life. Beyond the fact that we're not Trinitarians, our view of Christ is essentially the same as all other Christians...which is hardly shocking given that our view also comes from the Bible.

Be careful with the LDS answers here. They'll tell you that Jesus is fully God, yet their doctrine and scriptures tell a very different story.

Per LDS scriptures, Jesus (Jehovah) was the first born spirit child of Elohim, an expedientenoto obedient to the right ordinances and commandments to become a God. They believe that "intelligences" cannot be created, but someone smart like an exalted man (God) can take it and make a spirit body out of it, then add a physical body so it receives a fullness of joy.

So we learn from this that the LDS Jesus is one step ahead of us in earning his Godhood. Jesus is a created being since it's true per LDS scripture that He was once in a form that wouldn't be considered a God.

The LDS do NOT pray to Jesus. They tell you it's because Jesus taught us to worship the Father in His name. But if you consider Jesus fully God, pray would follow. But it doesn't because Jesus is sort of junior God in the grand scheme of Mormonism. He's like an older brother. And you have the same ability to walk perfectly as He did so get with it!

If this weren't enough, Mormons don't view the atonement of Jesus and faith in His work for us as sufficient. They're very interested in their own works and in getting the right rituals. They believe that Jesus put salvation within reach, but it's up to us to do ALL we can to attain it by our own works. They believe they can choose their way to perfection just like Jesus did.

These are significant enough differences that we can lovingly but boldly say that the LDS/Mormon people have another Jesus.

Jesus is the first-born of all our Heavenly Father's spirit children. Under the Father's direction, Jesus created the earth for the children of God to come here to receive mortal bodies. At that time, and throughout the Old Testament period, Jesus was known as Jehovah, God of the Old Testament. Jehovah was born into mortality as Jesus, who served His incomparable mortal ministry, atoned for our sins, and brought to pass the resurrection of the dead through His own resurrection. Both God the Father and Jesus Christ are Gods; the Holy Ghost is also a separate and distinct Being, also a God, one of the three members of the Godhead. Jesus is our Savior and Exemplar, and it is through Him that we may return to the presence of the Father. We also testify that Jesus restored and personally directs His church to the earth in modern times, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to prepare the world for His Second Coming. This He does as in New Testament times, through continuing revelation to living prophets and apostles and by the personal revelations of the Holy Ghost in the lives of faithful members of the Church. His church is for all the world, not just current members.

He is the only begotten son of God, in the flesh.
He was born of Mary, a virgin.
He is our savior. He died on the cross for our sins. He is a member of the Godhead, which consists of God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Both the father and son have immortal resurrection bodies. They are not one in substance, but rather in purpose and authority.
