Before you do that - just ask them what they teach about Jesus:
1. Orson Hyde said; "Jesus Christ was married at Cana of Galilee, that Mary, Martha, and others were his wives, and that he beg at children".
Journal of Discourses vol 2 p.210
2. Orson Pratt said; "The Great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion was a Polygamist.. .we have also proved that both God the Father and our lord Jesus Christ inherit their wives in eternity as well as in time".
The Seer p.172
Conclusion; The Mormon Jesus is actually the spirit brother of Lucifer, who became the devil, he was born as a result of sexual relation between God the Father and Mary, who was no longer a virgin. Jesus was a Polygamist, married at least 3 women and beg at children.
Is this the real Jesus or a counterfeit? .......2 Cor 11:4
Now a little poem for our Mormon prophet:
THE MORMON JESUS
There was a man from Kolob, who because
he lived his life so good, a god he became,
Elohim was his name, the Council of gods made Earth his domain.
This heavenly Father of flesh and bone was not content to sit on his throne, many wives had he, busy as a bee, producing spirit children for eternity.
Two kids of his quarrel led over who would be the Lord, Lucifer and Jesus were they. One was Redeemer and one was the Devil, a strange brotherhood I'd say!!!
Elohim looked on down and a virgin he found, but he didn't leave her that way, a child she produced named him Jesus the Lord, he married 3 times so he wouldn't be bored.
THIS ISN'T THE JESUS OF SCRIPTURE, WHO FOR MY SALVATION DID DIE, SO MORMONS I'M SORRY I WON'T SEE YOU IN GLORY!
JOSEPH SMITH HAS TOLD YOU A LIE!!!
Tell them you want the 3 minute baptism...That's where they hold your empty head under the water for three minutes until you're dead and the world gets that much better...
Please don't join the Mormon church. Most churches recognize it to be a cult. There are a lot of books out there written about Mormonism and why it is a cult. Do some research before you jump into this with both feet. I recently read a book about someone who did what you are planning to do, and it was a nightmare for him. As he got deeper into the faith, there were a lot of other things he learned that they hadn't told him about, and many of their beliefs contradict the scriptures.
Mormonism is one of the biggest hoaxes of all times, and sadly, it is growing. Join a Christian denomination, and stay away from the Mormons. (Sorry LDS folks, but I've read a lot of literature about the false teachings). Alexander Campbell, founder of the restoration movement of the Christian church was a huge opponent to Joseph Smith, and had plenty to say about his writings, which he found to be absolutely heretical. You can find them on line, if you look up Campbell.
I had a friend who did that years ago, and I was too bashful to tell her not to join then. I have always regretted this error. Please don't do this. Talk to the Pastor of a Christian church or a Baptist minister before you make this decision.
Edit: Why am I not surprised to have so many thumbs down? Friend, I have been a born again Christian for 35 years. I work with a pastor, and a dear friend of mine attended the Mormon church. She told me it was a most definitely a cult.
PLEASE look up some sources about Mormonism. God doesn't give new revelations to people anymore- the scriptures were closed 2000 years ago. The only apostles were the ones who were alive during the time of Christ. Even the apostle Paul was alive, although at the time he was not a disciple. The book of Mormon teaches about the Nephites- a race of ancient peoples who lived in America - but archeology has found absolutely NO evidence of their existence. The Bible, on the other hand, has had tons of archaeological proof, including finding that the original scriptures have not been tampered with. The Dead Sea Scrolls proved that the scriptures have remained the same for over 3000 years. Nearly every city and race mentioned has been discovered by archeology. Don't join up with a group of folks who absolutely refuse to look at the geological evidence and put their faith in the book of a charlatan who only wanted to start his own religion and make an excuse for practicing polygamy. The book of Mormon even uses King James English- with it's 'thees' and thous. Since when does God speak in King James English? There's a lot of historical evidence of the false claims of Joseph Smith. Please do your research before getting involved. Once you get in, they don't let you get out easily. At least in the Christian church, you aren't a prisoner.
Nothing has given my life more peace and joy than this gospel and knowing that I am a literal daughter of God with a divine heritage and potential.
The eternal perspective that the gospel gives you allows for you to develop such an intense and deep understanding of love and forgiveness for everyone in a way that gives you glimpses of what it will be like to be part of that eternal family with Heavenly Father and the Savior as one and it is absolutely amazing, life changing and helps you to prioritize what is actually important in this life.
No matter what the Mormon bashes and haters say, when you have felt the literal love of our Heavenly Father in your life and gain that enlightenment of what that kind of love is like and how the gospel brings you to a place where you can feel that love from others and for others, it changes everything.
I could care less what anyone else says about our beliefs. I know what that kind of love and understanding of the gospel has done for my life and for my soul and wouldn't give it up for anything!
Your next step is to call your local LDS Missionaries, and they will give you lessons, about the essentials of THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints. Also you can ask any question that you want to, during the Missionary lessons.
Then being fully informed, at least as much as humanly possible, and after reading The Book Of Mormon The Second Witness Of Jesus Christ, you can ask God through prayer, if The Book Of Mormon is true, and if the LDS Church is the true Church of Jesus Christ.
God will hear your sincere prayer, and then based on a witness you will receive from God (by the still small voice) you can then be Baptized, upon the local Bishop's approval, which is almost always given.
You are a Child Of God, so that is why God will answer your sincere question, should you really ask God if you should join THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints... simple as that.
If you think your answer is going to be found on Yahoo Answers you are sadly mistaken. This is a question that only you can answer. You pray about this and see if you feel it is right or not. Reading tons of Anti-Mormon comments isn't any better than reading Pro-Mormon comments. In truth, the answer you are seeking CAN NOT come from Joe Blow from Minnesota (just an example), it can only come from YOU.
Congratulations. It's a wonderful church. You have the opportunity to get closer to God than you ever thought possible. I am grateful every day for my membership in the LDS church, for the Book of Mormon, and for the inspired leadership. The LDS church has the Holy Ghost, and authority from God, and living prophets. I've seen the hand of God manifested in many ways throughout the years.
Please go to the church and ask them questions. Not yahoo answers.Believe me when I say this they make Mormons look horrible. Some people take things out of contacts, some people mix words,or some people just plain tell lies about the Mormon religion.Ask all the questions you have to a Mormon. And make sure you check out the link below in the sources.
Before you do this, I wouldn't ask this question on this forum because it doesn't matter one bit what we all say to you. I suggest talking to both a Mormon Bishop and a local pastor. Have them help you answer questions. The only reason I say to ask both sides is that one sided answers typically involve not getting all the information you need to make an educated decision (i.e. they'll only tell you what you want to hear, not complete truth, and sometimes the truth hurts). Look at both sides of the picture and determine what is right for you.
Oh, and read the Bible. All the answers can be found there! Good Luck!
Sweetie, you have come to the wrong place to ask if you should be baptized in the Mormon church. The only person that can decide that is you. If you have already been speaking with the missionaries... then I would recommend praying to know if the Book of Mormon and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. If you receive the answer of yes, which I know you will if you have faith that Heavenly Father will answer, than you are only hurting yourself by not being baptized.
And I'm sure it is the truth that attracted you to the church.. Maybe forever families. I'll promise you the same thing if you get yourself and your family to pay me 10 % of your money.
I'm a missionary for the Mormon Church authorized to answer questions and teach on line. You are going to get all sorts of truth and non-truth off of Yahoo Answers. Go to the source. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. The most important part is knowing for yourself.
