The main branch of the Mormon Church is not considered a cult, which is a VERY loose term for an obscure religion that is primarily used to brainwash and control its members. This is all judged from the outside, of course.
In any case, there are specific branches of Mormons that create compounds or small towns that are isolated from the rest of the world. These are led by a single man who assigns all young girls and women (sometimes as young as 12 years old) to be wives to the religious men so that they can have many children. It is believed by these Mormons (not sure about Mormons in general) that the greater ones family size, the greater ones eternal reward. These compounds are sexist and oppressive. They live in near-Amish style with the leader having total control. Since all members technically choose to live there, the police cannot do anything, and none will speak for either fear of their leader or of God.
