They believe that when they die here on earth that they have the chance to become a god themselves. They also believe that their Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother created them.

There are major differences between many of their beliefs and mainstream Christianity. They have the notion that the Mormon faith is the only true faith and all others are blasphemy. Joseph Smith is their prophet he "restored" the true Church of Christ on Earth. He received a revelation from an angel named Moroni, he was a Native American. He told Smith where to find golden plates and seer stones so he can translate it. No one has ever seen the golden plates. What Joseph Smith translated became the Book of Mormon, this is thought to be another testament of the Bible. They believed Native Americans are descendants of Israelites. That Jesus after his resurrection he visited the Native Americans and preached his word. Mormons believe Jesus is going to return to Missouri as well as Jerusalem. They also believed that there are different levels of heaven, the highest level being celestial kingdom. This is where good Mormons go and they believe they can attained Godhood. This doesn't mean they stop believed in their creator but they think they would receive the same gifts that God has. The church used to practice polygamy but repealed that in 1890. They also baptized the dead and have "Word of Wisdom" which means they don't smoke, drink, or have coffee. They get married in the temple where they are "sealed" for eternity, they believed that sealing them will unite their family in the celestial kingdom. Their Sunday service lasts for about 3 hours and they believed the Mormon President, -Thomas S. Monson - the modern day prophet. The Church was established in 1830 and has 12 million around the world. I'm not a Mormon but from what I read this is my understanding of their beliefs.

1. They don't believe the core doctrines of Christianity. For example, salvation, trinity, what determines scripture are very core doctrines that we disagree on.

2. They claim to follow the Jesus of the Bible. I sincerely believe that they have been deceived and are following a false Christ. Christ specifically stated that he would not show up in Central America in the way that the Book of Mormon claims. There is no evidence outside the Book of Mormon that shows that happened either.

3. They claim to have restored the gospel. The gospel the present is very different than what's in the Bible. Christians rely on the Bible and there is ample evidence that the gospel has not been lost, and therefore, does not need to be restored.

By whom? Many Christians DO consider Mormons to be fellow Christians. Those who don't probably don't because Mormonism theology is quite different from basic Christian theology.

That is a generality statement that is untrue. While Some Christian sects deny the LDS church is Christians, others agree to consider them such. The Mormons respect Jesus as divine and their savior. They believe Jesus caused to be written a supplementary holy text beyond the Christian bible (which they also read and use) called the Book of Mormon. They see themselves as the 'new version' the 'completed' version of Christianity.

The Mormons hold other books to be equal to the Christian Scriptures, for example the Book of Mormon.
The Mormons hold many beliefs that conflict with the Bible.
The Mormons do not have a Biblical concept concerning who is Jesus Christ.
Mormon foundations were fraudulent.

Because they deny Jesus is God and they believe Lucifer (Satan) is Jesus' brother, which are lies and not biblical.

It's a good question, especially when the official name is The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. But mainly it has to do with the book of Mormon. Most Christians just believe in the Bible.

This is a fairly recent attack on the Mormon church. No one really questioned their Christianity until the last twenty years or so. I believe that some churches feel threatened by the LDS (Mormon) church, and have decided to take a more aggressive stance, defining only themselves and those who think like them as Christians. It is basically a scare tactic to keep parishioners from investigating the LDS church. Too many people who investigate actually end up joining, and that hurts the revenues of every paid minister. About 75% of ministers have admitted to hosting anti-Mormon classes to dissuade any curiosity that might lead to investigation. By painting the LDS church as black as possible, they hope to turn the tide of converts.

It isn't a very Christian thing to do, in my opinion.
