I was just wondering what types of music Mormons listen to. There is a TON of christian worship and other christian music that is written and sung by Christians, but the only Mormon music i can find seems to be the Mormon tabernacle choir. Is this seriously what they listen too all the time?
When I was being raised Mormon there wasn't this whole cult of christian bands trying to make a buck.
So really it was just encourage we steer clear of anything with 'immoral' messages, or swearing.
When I was in the cult, we didn't have a huge PUSH to surround ourselves with 'rock' Christan music or any of that crap... It didn't really exist much.
There are a whole lot of different music that we (Mormons) listen to. I listen to some of the Christian music you're talking. We have a youth camp called Especially For Youth (EFY) that some Mormon artists write songs for that have to do with our faith and teachings. I really enjoyed this song that they used for the past year's EFY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKh3wF7DBPk .It's really inspiring since I am a daughter of God. I also liked this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8okOgw-jn4 from a couple of years ago.
As for non-Christian music, I listen to all sorts of stuff, Daughtry, Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down, Colbie Calliat, John Mayer, and there's a lot more. Because of my beliefs I try to find uplifting music that doesn't have any profanity in it or offensive topics. We're pretty much like everybody else!
Most Mormons I know don't listen to Christian music. They either listen to nothing or just everyday music that most other people listen to. I was raised Mormon and I never listened to any Christian music groups. Only the very religious (and boring) Mormons listen to Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Anything uplifting a non-disruptive to the Holy Spirit.
Some things to which I listen are Enrique Iglesias, Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, John Denver, Willie Nelson, U2, Richard Marx, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Beatles, Chicago, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Jim Birckman, Journey, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, ... just to name some.
I also listen to instrumental, relaxing music.
If you really want to find music of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that isn't the Tabernacle Choir, then try http://www.mormonmusic.org/ like I did when Google-Inga. Also search for something called EFY (Especially For Youth).
All the time?? Who listens to only religious music? This Mormon girl here listens to country, pink Floyd, Killers, U2, alternative....etc... and Mo-Tab!
Mormons have a very wide variety of music that we listen to. I have met Mormons that listen to and love things like heavy metal and I have also met Mormons who hate heavy metal and feel that it is a very evil form of music. So as far as what we listen to that depends on who you are talking to. However if you are talking about what kind of music Mormon musicians produce, well for starters Gladys Knight converted to the church in 1998. David Archuleta is a born and raised Mormon. One of the best places you can go to to find a collection of music that is either produced by Mormons or at least widely accepted by Mormons (in America at least) is Deseret Book. The second to the last link in my sources takes you directly to their website. Another is a website LDS Music Now the last link in my sources goes to their website. They have weekly free downloads for various selections of music.
The following is a list of some other Mormon musicians that I gathered from the Deseret Book website. (there are more but I think that this list is enough to give you a decent sampling) Some of these I have heard of there are also many that I have never heard of.

Edit 2: WOW I would not have thought that a simple question about music would have generated this much hostility. The number of thumbs down on very simple answers is staggering.
We are as diverse as anyone else. There are some lads artists out there that make lads based contemporary music, similar to other "Christian" contemporary music. Personally I can't stand that type of music, it all makes my skin crawl. Go to this link to see a selection of what's currently available:
http://deseretbook.com/LDS-Music/c/2
Classical music is my first choice. I also like ragtime, Big Band, Squirrel Nut Zippers and some ethnic music. African contemporary music is my current favorite. My husband is into classic rock (we're old), which I tolerate, but I have to draw the line at The Guess Who. I love the Beatles.
Mormons come from all cultures and walks of life. Of course our taste in music isn't going to be the same, which means that while some Mormons like MoTab, others won't. Our faith doesn't determine our choice in music. We're only cautioned not to listen to music with coarse or suggestive lyrics. Beyond that, it's up to us.
Personally, I don't like choir music, so I can't stand MoTab. My favorite band is Rise Against. I'm also on a Skillet kick, and while they bill themselves as a Christian group, I'm not sure I really see it in their songs. I do know that there are Mormon bands and singers, though. Brooke White is Mormon, but beyond that, I'm drawing a blank at the moment.
