A lot of questions about Mormons, I'm not American, why do so many who think of them
Is it fear of them being them different. Or is it something else. From what I've read, they are a peaceful lot!
Loved all your answers, though it raised more questions. But I'll go after my three points and choose the best one! Thanks
We (I) don't thing of them as weird. They can do whatever they want to. I am American. They have their own way of living and bringing up their kids, so we just let them be.
I think most Americans respect Mormons, actually. They tend to have strong family values and be enthusiastic, vibrant members of any community. They are faithful and loyal to their church families, as well. I personally love having Mormon students and am always particularly grateful to their parents for being so wonderfully supportive of their children's' education.
There were some things that happened involving a small minority Mormon fundamentalist cult group that brought some negative attention to the church, unfortunately. A book to read that deals with the specific chain of events and includes much history of the Mormon church is: "Under the Banner of Heaven" by John Krakauer.
cause they are, so am I, I am a christian my wife is Mormon basically they are christian but with a twist. The book of Mormon. A testimony of the latter day saints. Without this book they believe the same as I.
I see them sometimes in the town where I live. Many people think they are weird indeed. They stand out like a virgin in a cat house. Maybe because they are dressed 100% wrong and seem to buy all their raincoats in the same shop that has an enormous stock left from East Germany in 1963. Maybe because they all look like they take three showers a day and they look like they wear treeline shirts.
Last: they seem to learn my mother language from somebody who has foot and mouth disease.
