Mormons actually believe God and Jesus came to Joseph Smith, wearing white robes. Why
If there is a God, and He is advanced, beyond genius, full of love and completely capable, why would He choose to wear a robe, (supposedly cotton) and not a futuristic synthetic material with qualities we know nothing about yet? Would God prefer a loose robe over an efficient and sleek looking, body-conforming outfit, designed by truly gifted, devout craftsmen?
The writings of Joseph Smith mentioned nothing out of the ordinary regarding texture. Thus, cotton or wool would have been the fabric content (New York, circa 1820) of a robe that caused him no notice or need to describe the material.
Leno92 - If robes were worn due to comfort, why don't Americans wear them as common apparel now?
youth pastor1955 - the sheep Christ mentioned indicate wool may have been the material of their robes.
Mormon_4_jesus - What difference does it make? Are you serious? If God and Jesus appeared to a young boy in America 212 years ago, Emery detail would be the proper scrutiny of Emery intelligent soul. What the visitors wore would thus be far more important to us than what celebrities wear to special events. What one wears reveals decorum, respect, intellect and worth. If God and Jesus wore white robes as they reintroduced the pure gospel to earth again, why don't we now seek to imitate them, in our wardrobes? What mortals wear is quite significant, if you know much of history and have delved into diverse traditions.
Dropshortandduck - Mormonism is like a perfect teen arriving at a poor High School's prom, immaculately dressed, and the envy of all boys and girls. If fake, it's the greatest propped fiction on earth. If real, we're in trouble, and Mormons are in even more hot water, as they abandoned the most stringent values given during the formative era.
Sure wish I could determine WHY God and Jesus wear robes. Can someone answer this simple question? Why don't we, today wear robes?
Lady LDS - God supplied us with each other, even though He easily could have given an earth to each individual. He gave us each other for context and experience. I asked this simple question to learn of my fellows what they thought. I don't need to ask God why He chose a robe. I already know. I wear robes. Robes are simple. Equal. Convenient. Effective. Most appropriate, in any setting. I asked you, to see if you see what I do. I ask, wanting an answer...why don't we wear robes today? Why?
He would probably wear a robe because it is breezy :P Actually, When Jesus was alive, Robes were the style back in Palestine. God and Jesus like to keep their clothing simple I guess.
Why not? Robes are comfortable, and they convey the pimp in` look that I would be going for if I were God. God gets to wear whatever the fuck he wants, it seems unlikely he would choose skin tight super future synthetics just to impress you. He doesn't give a shit what you think. He is God and he is wearing his robe today. Period.
....I still think Mormonism is only one step up from Scientology.
There is a verse in the Bible, and it escapes me exactly where that is as I don't have my Bible handy, where Jesus says"I have other sheep to tend to" (I paraphrase). Mormans take this as Jesus coming to them in America, or so I have been told. What it really means is Jesus is telling the Jewish people that He has to go and minister to the Gentiles now.
I hate to burst Antone's bubble, but, Jesus once said "NO MAN CAN SEE GOD, AND LIVE"
It's in their bible..........Since God is a spirit and not in the flesh, don't you wonder about the need for clothing?
You have to be able to convince me as being fact and not a myth. Joseph Smith was a brilliant person in creating his own type of religion by looking at all those followers and the riches they have brought to his legacy which Joseph has become a legend equal ling Mohammad and Jesus.
Truly gifted, devout craftsman... Yes! That would be God. He did design the whole of Christ's creation. He made the planet Earth, the Sun that warms the earth, the atmosphere that protects the planet from ultra-violet rays, arranged the soil composition the cotton was grown in, designed the water cycle, and the way that nutrients are sent to be utilized by the plants and the process of photosynthesis... God made cotton plants for a purpose. I'd be pretty pleased with my work. I'd wear it! The cotton is breathe able, comfortable, wicks away moisture into the breeze. I would guess he is a bit of a "Happy" as dress goes... "natural materials"... yea... that would seem right to me. Royalty always wear robes... hm mm... I don't know why? I always have too many bigger questions to ask. Why wasn't the suit body-conforming? God is all about modesty... ever notice when Adam and Eve were found hiding in the garden with fig leaves on because they were embarrassed about being naked? God made them something more modest, now that they chose to move beyond innocence. I think there is more a question of God and Mormonism in general as "full of love" seems to be oddly stuck in a question regarding the choice of attire for this occasion. I would suggest that if you want to know about God, ask God!!! If someone wanted to know about YOU, you wouldn't want them to ask me, right? Go to the source, ask with an open heart and mind and expect to get a clear answer... it may not come the first try, but it will come to you... and no one will ever be able to take your answer away from you. When God answers you instead of a man... WOW!!!
I presume that they wore white linen since this is the way the scriptures tell us the redeemed will dress. Which means the 'fireballs' are out of luck.
Revelation 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5 He that overcome, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Are you kidding me? This is all you can come up with to discredit the church? Why were they wearing robes???
Why would it matter what they were wearing? God is perfect. He must know more than you do.
Here a man claims to have seen God and Jesus Christ, and instead of investigating this marvelous claim, you're asking about their clothing? Are you from Manhattan?
