Default Who is more honest, Joseph Smith or God?

The Bible tells us if a prophet makes one false prophet he is not true and must be ignored. The Mormons say that prophets are human and so make mistakes. Jesus said His church would never be brought down, His Word never destroyed. Yet the Mormon's say it was.

Somebody's lying. Who is it?
MikeB, the only thing you right about is the rude wording of my question. I do get angry that this church is misleading at best, considering the result people face.

Isaiah is from the Old Testament, we all know that covenant was broken and Jesus saved us with the New Covenant. There was no other broken covenant, JS is wrong there.

Amos 8:11- The bible does continually warn us there will be a famine of the Words of the Lord (and the words of false prophets will be plenty)

All these things are in the bible, it doesn't make the Mormon church true. Mormons present the OT and try to take credit for the New Covenant away from Jesus - how low can you go?

Jesus warned us that ?false Christs and false prophets? will come and will attempt to deceive even God?s elect (Matthew 24:23-27; see also 2 Peter 3:3 and Jude 17-18). To best guard yourself against falsehood and false teachers - know the truth.
To spot a counterfeit, study the real thing. Any believer who is, ?rightly dividing the word of truth? (2 Timothy 2:15), and who makes a careful study of the Bible, can identify false doctrine. For example, a believer who has read the activities of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in Matthew 3:16-17 will immediately question any doctrine that denies the Trinity. Therefore, ?step one? is to study the Bible and judge all teaching by what the scripture says.
Jesus said ?a tree is known by his fruit? (Matthew 12:33). When looking for ?fruit,? here are three specific tests to apply to any teacher to determine the accuracy of his or her teaching:
1) What does this teacher say about Jesus? He that abideThn the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.? In other words, Jesus Christ and His work of redemption is of utmost importance; beware anyone who who downplays Jesus? substitutionary death. Mormons don't even acknowledge Good Friday - that's downplay.
2) Does this teacher preach the gospel? The gospel is defined as the good news concerning Jesus? death, burial, and resurrection, according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). As nice as they sound, the statements ?God loves you,? ?God wants us to feed the hungry,? and ?God wants you to be wealthy? are NOT the complete message of the gospel. As Paul warns in Galatians 1:7, ?There be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.? No one, not even a great preacher, has the right to change the message that God gave us. ?If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed? (Galatians 1:9).

(Galatians 1:9).

3) Does this teacher exhibit character qualities that glorify the Lord? Speaking of false teachers, Jude 11 says, ?They have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.? In other words, a false teacher can be known by his pride (Cain?s rejection of God?s plan), greed (Balaam?s prophesying for money), and rebellion (Korah?s promotion of himself over Moses).
Here are a few failed prophecies of joseph smith, keeping in mind the Bible tells us if anyone makes ONE false prophesy, he is a false prophet. There are no exceptions made for being human, since it's God who gives prophecy, true prophecy can only be true.

A false prophet is somebody who tells people the wrong thing in relation religion, for example if a prophet was to tell their people not to do something that was gods will then they would be classed as false prophet.
The person, who happen to be a prophet is able to make mistakes, just like we all do, just not to give out false information.

The Bible says that in the last days on the earth before the returns again his church would never be destroyed.

I hope this helps.

Joseph Smith was only a man. God is God, who is capable of perfect love. Who do you think is more honest?

The church was never gone, but the Priesthood authority that Christ conferred on Peter and His other apostles was gone for a long time, as well as continuing revelation from God to His church, Thur His prophets.

You. I notice that you do not provide the references for what you claim that the Bible says. Because it doesn't. Below is a list of KJV verses that speak of a falling away. We might disagree about what each means. But that would be how a polite conversation concerning scriptures and belief would begin. Not with an unfounded drive-by accusation.

Isa. 24: 5 changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
Isa. 29: 13this people draw near me with their mouth.
Isa. 60: 2darkness shall cover the earth.
Amos 8: 11a famine . . . of hearing the words of the Lord.
Matt. 13: 25his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat.
Matt. 24: 5saying, I am Christ, and shall deceive many.
Matt. 24: 24shall arise false Christs, and false prophets.
John 6: 66his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
Acts 20: 29shall grievous wolves enter in among you.
1 Cor. 11: 18there be divisions among you.
Gal. 1: 6I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him.
Gal. 3: 1who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey.
2 Thes. 2: 3shall not come, except there come a falling away first.
1 Tim. 1: 6some having swerved have turned aside.
1 Tim. 4: 1giving heed to seducing spirits.
2 Tim. 1: 15all they which are in Asia be turned away from me.
2 Tim. 2: 18Who concerning the truth have erred.
2 Tim. 3: 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power.
2 Tim. 4: 4turn away their ears from the truth . . . unto fables.
Titus 1: 16profess that they know God, but in works they deny him.
James 4: 1From whence came wars and fighting among you.
2 Pet. 2: 1false prophets also among the people.
2 Pet. 3: 17being led away with the error of the wicked.
1 Jn. 2: 18now are there many Antichrists.
1 Jn. 4: 1many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Jude 1: 4certain men crept in . . . denying the only Lord God.
Rev. 2: 2which say they are apostles, and are not.
Rev. 3: 16thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot.
Rev. 13: 7to make war with the saints.

Well Joseph made God out to be a liar in chapter 2 of the book of Abraham. So Joseph must have thought he was more honest than God. Either Joseph is a false prophet or God is a liar. So which is it?

Book of Abraham 2:22-25 (Pearl of Great Price)
22 And it came to pass when I was come near to enter into Egypt, the Lord as aid unto me: Behold, Sarai, thy wife, is a very fair woman to look upon;
23 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see her, they will say?She is his wife; and they will kill you, but they will save her alive; therefore see that ye do on this wise:
24 Let her say unto the Egyptians, she is thy sister, and thy soul shall live.
25 And it came to pass that I, Abraham, told Sarai, my wife, all that the Lord had said unto me?Therefore say unto them, I pray thee, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for thy sake, and my soul shall live because of thee.

Sounds a lot like this story

Gen 12:11-19 KJV
And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19 Why sadist thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

Only in the bible God is not portrayed as a liar. Abraham decides on his own to let the Egyptians believe Sarah was merely his sister and not his wife.

The Book of Abraham is in the Pearl of Great Price, so that means it qualifies a one of the Mormon churches standard works. It will interesting to hear the denial about this one.

You'll notice the link below is not a "Mormon hater" website. It is the mormon churches website.
