Mormons believe that the lost parts of the bible were given through Devinne intervention to Joseph Smith. It included such tidbits like:

- When you die, you can reach different levels of heaven, one of which includes being the deity of a planet of your own

- Only members who leave the Mormon church go to hell

- There is a cloth garment that you should wear 24/7 to become more in touch with God

- Mormon Temple is required for marriage, otherwise your marriage isn't valid or you and your spouse won't meet each other in heaven.

- Garfield the Cat is the 2ND messiah (just kid din on this one)

Correct me if I'm wrong on anything, I'm not Mormon...but I dated one for 2 years.

Our Faith is based on the life of Christ. He is our Savior and by living a Christ-like life, we can return to Him.

Here are the basics.

We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.

We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisaical glory.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul?We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

They believe that 'works' alone will get them to heaven. They are sadly mistaken.

too much of their belief revolves around Joseph Smith. Sadly he was a little prejudiced wen he told them Wat he had 'heard' from God. The belief that u Harv 2 b in a certain place at a certain tum to b with the Lord wen He cums is also, sadly, wrong. U dent Harv to b a Mormon to get to heaven!

What Do Mormons Believe: The Primary Differences Between Mormonism & Christianity

What Do Mormons Believe: Divine Authority
The Mormon church uses two sources as its primary authorities: the Book of Mormon and the Bible. The Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price are also viewed as divinely authoritative. The Christian church uses the Holy Bible alone as its authority from God. Joseph Smith is not recognized as a prophet.

What Do Mormons Believe: The Nature of God
The Mormon church sees God as the Supreme Being of the universe. However, He gradually acquired that position over a long period of time by living a perfect and righteous life. God the Father has a body (flesh and bones). The Christian church proclaims God as eternally and infinitely supreme. He is the same today as always. He is a spirit Being.

What Do Mormons Believe: The Nature of Man
The Mormon church teaches that humans exist as spirit beings before their birth. At physical birth, bodies are given to these spirits. They are also given an opportunity for free-will choice. The physical world represents a period of probation. The status of a person in the afterlife is determined by the way that person lived their life on Earth. If the person lived by a satisfactory standard, (including the fulfillment of Mormon temple obligations) that person has the potential to become a god in the after-life. They can also produce "spirit children" to populate a world of his own (like God did with the earth). The Christian church holds that humans do not exist as spirits prior to being born into the world. Humans cannot attain godhood or populate other worlds with "spirit children."

What Do Mormons Believe: The Nature of Jesus Christ
The Mormon church views Jesus and Satan as spirit brothers and sons of God. God put forth His plan of salvation for the world, and Satan proposed his own plan. Jesus accepted the Father's plan and offered to implement it as the Savior. The Father chose Jesus, and the spirit of Jesus was given a body through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity. The character and life of Jesus is attainable by anyone who performs at such a righteous level. The Christian church teaches that Jesus Christ has existed eternally as the Son of God, the second "person" of the Trinity. Jesus took on human flesh about 2000 years ago and was born into the world through the virgin Mary. He was crucified on a Roman cross for our sins, and rose from the dead three days later to establish His deity.

What Do Mormons Believe: How do we Achieve Salvation
The Mormon church holds that Jesus Christ overcame physical death and guaranteed physical resurrection to all mankind. However, spiritual death can only be avoided through personal obedience of God's commandments. Forgiveness of sins requires faith, repentance and baptism by an approved Mormon priest. The practice of baptism for the dead is an extension of this belief, in which Mormons are baptized in proxy for those who have died without proper baptism. The Christian church teaches that we are unable to live a life righteous enough to meet God's perfectly holy standard. Therefore, we establish a relationship with God by faith in the work of Christ on the cross, not by our own works. Baptism and good deeds are acts of obedience to God, but not the means for gaining eternal salvation.

What Do Mormons Believe: Life After Death
The Mormon church maintains that although there is temporary punishment for those that are most wicked, Jesus Christ will establish a new kingdom that will consist of three levels: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, and the celestial kingdom. The Christian church holds that there are only two possible fates after death, heaven or hell. These locations are final, both physically and spiritually.

We believe in the Lord God and His Son Jesus, we also believe the Bible to be the Word of God, want to find out what else we believe in, attend one of our church services, we are firm believers in doing good works to test and strengthen our testimony in He who is Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. We believe that Christ died on the cross at Calvary to atone for all our sins and to fulfill the Law of Moses. We believe that the Lord our God still speaks through living prophets, who are ordained and set apart to be spokesmen for the Lord God. We also believe in the power of prayer and personal testimony, I leave this with you in His Holy Name, even Jesus -Amen

Among other things, they believe that a long time ago, the entire Church completely fell away from God -- causing the need for the establishment of a new church (or at least a restoration of the old one).

This is in direct violation of Scripture, of course, where Jesus says that not even the gates of hell would prevail over the Church he established.

The Mormon belief in the Great Apostasy, or complete breakdown of faith within the Church, basically amounts to saying that Jesus was a liar -- or at the very least, he was badly misinformed. But being that he was the Son of God, we know that this is impossible.

for Julia in Miami's answer....?
If there was no apostasy in the Church of Jesus Christ, then what happened to prophets? They were a crucial part of the original Church. Why aren't they in yours, Look at Ephesians 4:11-13 actually just read that whole chapter same with Matthew 23:34 and the gates of hell haven't prov ailed if one true church is in place...

for Martin S answer...?

http://www.fairlds.org/New_Mormon_Challenge/TNMC06.html
this goes over everything that was posted

for Micheline...

That is completely false we believe with out Jesus and his sacrifice none of us would ever return to heavenly father

By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast (Eph. 2:8-9).

Where do Latter-day Saints fit in? To correctly understand the answer, we must understand how the word "saved" is used by those who believe they are already saved through grace. As many Protestants have explained to the author, salvation to them means they are saved from hell and automatically guaranteed a spot in heaven, based only on their confession of a belief in Jesus Christ. One of their most popular justifications for such a belief is the alleged "conversion" of the thief on the cross. They believe that if they die at any given moment after they have accepted Jesus Christ, they will be guaranteed everlasting life with Christ in heaven.
Latter-day Saints believe that through Christ's atonement and his resurrection, all will live again, be resurrected and have immortality. As stated in 1 Cor. 15:22, "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." Let us look at the question again. Do Latter-Day Saints believe we are saved by grace alone? If being saved means being resurrected and thus having immortality, the answer is yes. Immortality comes entirely through the grace of God and His son, Jesus Christ. Such immortality or "saved" condition is automatically received by all mankind, regardless of how we live or whether we profess a belief in Christ.

However, we also believe what the Lord taught in Matt. 19:16-25. In this scripture we have the account of the rich man asking the Lord what he must do to have eternal life. The Lord responded by listing commandments to obey, then told him to sell all he had and follow the Savior. He did not tell him that he need only confess a belief in the Savior. The Lord plainly taught in the Sermon on the Mount that, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven" (Matt. 7:21, 22). Therefore, in order to enter Heaven, one must obtain the grace of God and also do the will of the Father.

The Lord also told Nicodemus (John 3:3-7) two other requirements for salvation: the birth of water (baptism) and of the Spirit (receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost). In Matthew 24:13, the Lord declares that in order to be saved one must also endure to the end. For Latter-day Saints, obtaining salvation is therefore both an event and a process. Most Protestants believe it to be only an event.

If we equate the term "salvation" with the term "eternal life," then we are saved by grace (a gift from God) if we have done God's will, which means being obedient to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. When the ordinances are changed or dismissed as unnecessary by some of our critics, such as in the case of baptism and bestowal of the Gift of the Holy Ghost, eternal life isn't available to such until these ordinances are properly performed, either in person or vicariously. A basic tenet of our faith states, "We believe that through the Atonement [grace] of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience [works] to the laws and ordinances of the gospel."

as for the lucifer being brothers with JESUS.JESUS is the only "begotten son"
the rest of us our spirit children... just because lucifer turned bad that doesn't exclude him... who do you think created him?

Topher gave you a list of the 13 Articles of Faith. That's a good place to start.

Doug invited me to correct him if he was wrong, so I will address what he said:

Doug said: When you die, you can reach different levels of heaven, one of which includes being the deity of a planet of your own.
I respond: The different levels of heaven part is correct. There are three kingdoms of glory, the celestial, the terrestrial, and the celestial. As far as being Deity of a planet of our own, I can't confirm or deny that. I can't think of anything in our scriptures or anything that says that specifically. It COULD be true, but I don't know if that's a Churchwide belief or not.

Doug said: Only members who leave the Mormon church go to hell
I respond: According to a Christian's definition of hell, only those who blaspheme the Holy Ghost will go there. A Mormon's definition of hell is an entirely different topic.

Doug said: There is a cloth garment that you should wear 24/7 to become more in touch with God
I respond: Not all Mormons wear this, but yes there is underwear that we wear at all times. Of course, we take it off for bathing, sex, swimming, and other things that any normal person would take off their underwear for. As far as it being so we can be more in touch with God, that's not too far off the mark. Actually, we wear it to help remind us of the covenants and promises that we have made to God. Underwear is something that you can keep on you at all times, and not necessarily have it be an outward display, so it's something that we can conveniently use to remind us of our promises. I mean, most everyone wears underwear, right?

Doug said: Mormon Temple is required for marriage, otherwise your marriage isn't valid or you and your spouse won't meet each other in heaven.
I respond: Well, it's not REQUIRED, but it is definitely desirable. He is right when he said that your marriage wouldn't be valid after death if you were not married in the Mormon temple. If you've been to a civil ceremony, they only marry you "until death do you part." In the temple, there are people there with the authority to seal your marriage so that is valid even after death. As far as not meeting your spouse in heaven, I'm not sure on the details about that. I just know that if you are not sealed in the temple, then you won't be married in heaven. Everyone will have a chance to accept the gospel and these ordinances. If not in this life, then in the next.
