alright my question asking what Mormons believe was just to see what people would say. I'm Mormon and i know what we believe and we do not believe in polygamy. McKay?
someone asked why this question seemed defensive. just because i saw like 20 questions asking why Mormons believe in marrying they re uncles and cousins and other family members. we dint. it was something that we accepted a long time ago and we dint practice anymore. only the FLDS do.
i know there are still polygamists. they claim to be Mormon because they believe in the book of mormon or something like that. im not saying they dont exist. they are fundamentalist latter day saints. i know joseph smith practiced poligamy and im not denying him or whatever that person said. im just saying that we dont practice poligamy anymore. only a small amount of people in small towns in the middle of no where and they are FLDS.
Well obviously its been in your history as a religion. But you have a religion where you can change what you believe because it is not based on truth. You cannot change truth.
yea I'm not Mormon but i do know what you mean..that's a common misconception...i think that like when Mormons first came into existence that polygamy was accepted though not promoted..but now your not and ya people are idiots
Most modern day Mormans do not practice polygamy, just like most modern day Christians don't stone witches, but that doesn't mean such things are not part of your heritage.
There are different groups in your religion. Some do and some don't. Joseph sure did and he wrote the book!! or do you deny that He did and he wrote the book.
While modern, mainstream Mormons do not practice polygamy, there is a sect of Mormonism called the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that do practice it.
I know how you feel babe. My religion gets stereotyped all the time. People find out I have that faith and they're all, "oh, you people think..blah blah"
Society likes to put people in little boxes. Jews all act like this, and Buddhists act like this, so on, and no one is seen for who they really are.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints certainly doesn't believe in polygamy, but members of polygamous churches in the Rocky Mountain region also consider themselves Mormons and believe in the Mormon scriptures. Polygamous groups believe that Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and other prophets who practiced polygamy were indeed true prophets but they believe that the current LDS church has fallen into apostasy. They think that God continues to reveal his will to the people on earth today, but through their prophets. Members of the LDS church can claim to be the only Mormons but the polygamists claim to be Mormon too, while following their own prophets.
well you dint do this no more right. you better tell the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. that every one knows what you do why dint you even read the book of Mormon . seems not . your prophet josher smith . did. was not tom Greene a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. yes he was. caught on tape going into the church .or does the news lie again. i think not. what about the mass ace ordered by the church matter of record. seems like in my op ion you have a chip on your shoulder. right well here is some links to go to ok . www.nomanknowsmyhistory.com www,mormonnomore.com www.packmanteleport.com www.exmormonnomore.com www.bloodatonment.com teacking of the church .doctorines as well based on fact? oh by the way was the news lieing about that judge .2. months ago .he had.3. wifes . he was a member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. proven by the media . fact? nbc. abc. cnn. o.riley.com. is this not in your book of mormon. d.c.162. i think so i read it myself on line as well the book as well or is your prophet joshep smith as well brigham young not in it very much this is been proven it still is done forgot the meda lies . on this matter right . history of the church as well teaching as well based on fact?
Everyone who practices polygamy today is can not be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. those people on the news used to be Mormons and probably excommunicated. Mostly when people disobey God's commandments and get excommunicated from the church, they become bitter and start persecuting the church. the_silverfoxx, have you been a member by any chance? God is the judge of all. The Book of Mormon can defend itself and God will defend His church by His own hands. Noone can stop His work until the great Jehovah says the work is done. do and say whatever you want and be accountable for the consequences at the last day. Let's not falsely accuse each other, but be respectful like decent grown up people.
I believe it is the Amish who marry cousins and uncles. As a matter of fact, there is some medical problems haunting the Amish because of this practice.
I had asked a question about the Mormons and gave facts about something that happened. It seems the Mormons are touchy about religion. I was even called a liar and know my facts are viable. But I will attempt to help with the answer since I am an English professor.
I had written something about the Mormons not being inclusive because of a particular day in 1965 in South Carolina, when I was told to seek another denomination. Use all the cute words you desire and it changes nothing. I never said anything against the LDA. I made an observation. The fact of the wagon train being attacked is true. Nobody argues about the Indians killing General Custer and his men. I am half Indian and never hide my face. Custer?s last stand happened and the massacre of the people in the wagon train in Utah happened.
Whether you like it or not there are two facts that happened. Firstly, I was told in the church by a LDS elder, during service, I need to seek another denomination. The NAACP wanted to file legal action. This is a matter of public record. My Indian mother asked them not to do that since members of that church were friends of our family. The members of the church continually discriminated against blacks, also refusing to include them.
I am a fifty-eight year old English professor living in China and have written five novels and 650 poems; I am not mistaken. Just check your real facts; propaganda dozen?t count.
Mormonism is against everything that I stand for but I find that I am on their side on this subject. Some early Mormons did practice polygamy but the church backed away from that tenet many, many years ago. So what if there are some fringe groups that still practice it. Protestants have a few militia men running around in their ranks. I don't judge Christianity based on the ramblings of a confused few.
Finally, keep in mind that polygamy was practiced all throughout history in Judaism. Think how many wives David and Solomon had. Jesus finally said let each man have his own wife and it was also a prerequisite to becoming a deacon. Don't be so quick to point fingers when early Christians had a few skeletons of their own in the closet.
to say Mormons are not into polygamy, and then in another paragraph acknowledge that there are polygamist that believe in the Mormon religion is absurd. you have no right to say that they are not Mormon because they dint fit into your box, or beliefs about what a good Mormon should be.
Mormons have a history of polygamy, and still occurs today. some Mormons are not only practicing polygamy, but other, more severe atrocities by my moral code.
so, check the history of your religion. that would be my suggestion to you. you shouldn't say we as a group, unless you know what religion every poligamist belongs to, or what every mormom truly believes and practices.
thats like saying that a gay person can't be christian. people can choose to believe whatever they like, and practice the corresponding religion, or lack thereof.
I am surprised how much time we waste on things which we should consider as personal choice without debating about them as universal moral principles. Polygamy, monotheism, polytheism, abortion, contraceptives and so on. This should all be beyond public debate and should be allowed as individual choice. For example - polygamy - if all involved agree who are you or me to object? Let them alone.
Joseph Smith was not shot for teaching polygamy. He made them angry for teaching the spirit-wife a well know secret practice by people of his day. Search spirit-wife. And see why his real wife didn't want to go to the west with the saints.
linebacker? :But your church does own Budweiser, Yum brand foods which is KFC, A&W, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Pepsi co. So you are all a bunch of Hypocrites!!
um mm? where do you get your info Lil a good thing to do before you post this stuff is check it out you can easily find info on share holders for companies although it is possible members of the church may be shareholders that doesn't mean the church it's self owns it that's like saying The Luthren church endorses smoking because they have a member who is a share holder.... you are very misinformed
For the record:
(1) Coca Cola is a publicly traded company.
(2) The largest institutional holder is Berkshire Hathaway, which has 200,000,000 shares, or about 8% of the company.
(3) Berkshire Hathaway is run (and largely owned by) Warren Buffet, who is not, to the best of my knowledge, a Mormon.
In the same USENET group, James McNabb posted the following on April 29, 1997, as cited by Jerry James:
According to latest 13F filings with the SEC, the largest holders of Coca-Cola are:
Berkshire Hathaway 8.07%
Suntrust Banks 6.05%
Barclay's Bank 2.64%
Fayez Sarofim 2.46%
Wachovia Asset Mgt 1.64%
Bankers Trust 1.64%
State Street 1.12%
TIAA CREF .94%
Mellon Bank .89%
Regents of U of Calif. .84%
Lincoln Capital Mgt .66%
Northern Trust .65%
Nationsbank .55%
CALPERS .52%
Fidelity .51%
When it comes to rumors about the Church building a corporate empire, it seems like it's always that gets the attention. Why not corporations like Adias, Maytag, or Hanes? And what about Nike? After all, wasn't it President Spencer W. Kimball who first said, "Just do it?"
as for being a Hypocrite yeah I can be I'll start up my diet again once I finish this brownie
