There is a vast difference between Mennonite, and Amish.
I lived in a Mennonite community (Lansdale PA) and the Mennonites are not like the Amish. They live among the "English". Their women dress modestly---but the ones with the caps and clothing held together with pins are Amish, not Mennonite.
They do not usually marry outside their kind, like their Amish cousins---a practice that has in recent years started to mess up their gene pool. If you are born to them, and play by their rules, the community will care for you, cradle to grave . They have schools, colleges, etc, and offer loans to help new couples get their first home...but if you "stray", they can also pull the carpet.
They also don't shun modern technology. Most have cars, and electricity. They do don't like their women to wear makeup, and I understand that hair dye is also frowned up...we won't discuss tattoos.
