You start with god, if you believe in god, Jesus dying on the cross to save our sins, and have confidence in god protecting and helping you, you have faith.
find self meaning through meditation, and you will find your answer to the meaning of life and sorry to say most inner peace comes without Christianity
Get involved in your church as opposed to merely attending services. Find ways to help people in your community in God's name. Read the Bible and seek to understand. Pray.
Brooke,
I think that what you mean is that you want to become more devoted and more in touch with your Christianity. You can start by reading your Bible and studying it. One study that is a great one is the Purpose Driven Life study. Also Beth Moore has some wonderful study guides and books. I am United Methodist also. I consider myself a Christian, not religious. Good luck and God bless.
Hi I'm a Penecostal and The Idea of being religious Is not the right Idea. not saying it's totally wrong I'm saying The closer you're to God The more humble, and righteous you 'll be. But don't try to be righteous to man be righteous to God and he'll raise you up as a great example for all people to see that God is GREAT. So Don't be Religous be a friend of GOD.
First of all, don't become more religious =). Religious people are the exact opposite of what God wants. Religious people are full of themselves and only want to follow rules. But instead pray that God will open up opportunities to increase your faith and show you where He wants you to be. He will strengthen your relationship with Him and make you a blessing for others.
being religious is something measurable??? you are religious or you are not...that is the same as if i say..i want to be more gay what do i have to do????
I think you mean you wish to take your relationship with God to a higher level. That involves talking to him daily and putting his will before your own. Many people wait until night time when they are half asleep to pray, why not wake up and give God glory for the new day he has given you and spend a few moments taking about what you are going to do on that day to honor him.
start by getting back to your church, or a church of your choice. talk to the Pastors or Elders, other people in your faith or the one you are interested in and go from there. I would think you want to find out what it is your beliefs are first, or possibly find out what it is Methodists believe, then work from there.
Then seek advice. Take ALL advice with a grain of salt. Decide for yourself what is best for you.
Some are going to tell you there is no God. Others will tell you there is, but only THEIR way is THE way.
Truth is, nobody actually knows. We won't know who is right until the very end. Even then we may not know.
Please be sure that if you choose religion, that you get what you are looking for from it. Don't get forced into a way of life that others control on your behalf.
More religious! Or A better christian faith? Religion is not about christian faith its a Doctorine. So, I am guess you mean better or closer to God. Your Faith? My advise is dint get so caught up in each Doctorine a certain church group has or does. Methadist, Catholic, Penticostal, and Baptised all have diff rent practices. If your wanting to have more faith then you need to read your BiBle more and actually continue to always prey for a closeness. If you still feel its not enough then FAST for an answer.
If you want to become more religious, pay more attention to your church's practices and rules. Ask your pastor or a mature member of your church.
If you want to become closer to God--which isn't necessarily the same as becoming more religious--pay closer attention to God. Spend more time alone with him. Be in your bedroom or another room, and talk to him as if he's there listening to you, because he is! Then be silent and wait for a response; it will probably come within you rather than in your hearing ear. Also, read the scripture more, and think about what you've read. If you haven't already, ask Jesus Christ to come into your life personally. And yes, talk to your pastor or a mature member of your church. See whether or not your church aids you in getting closer to God. If not, seek another church, with God's guidance.
Hmm...thought atheist never preached or tried to influence others beliefs...sorry Hun, was reading your answers from others.
It seems to me that what you are looking to do is find a closer personal relationship with God. I agree with what the other Christians have told you here. I would also tell you to take time to go outside and observe the life and beauty around you. Give control of your life over to God, set Him free in your life.
From one Methodist to another, let me say, I wish you luck with your quest. In my teens I had the same urge to become more religious. But I soon realized that the liberal impulse within Methodism prevented me from becoming more religious. I took a very roundabout path to Christ and recently I found a lovely church in another, more traditional, denomination.
You don't necessarily have to leave the United Methodists, though. You can find more devout friends who will surely rub off on you. You can bring your family along on the journey, too. Of course the most surefire way to come closer to God is through prayer and the Bible. Pray to God that you can come closer. Pray more frequently throughout the day. Read the Bible more and watch your actions more carefully. Watch what you say and try to live a more Christlike life. Scripture has laid out a plan to become more religious. All you have to do is follow.
You want to become more religious as a Methodist - start by joining a church if you have not yet already. Attend Bible Study and go to church every Sunday. Most important is to study the word and pray. Talk to GOD all the time/anytime. You can hold a conversation with the Lord while you are doing anything because HE knows your mind and your heart. Bible study and fellowship with others like you and those that can teach and be a mentor to you will make you more religious. Always, always trust in the Lord no matter what, have the faith, and your wisdom will come from above.
