Yes. Heresy does not mean that they are 100% wrong but that they "pick and chose" what they believe. The fact that 500 years of protestantism have produced over 35000 denominations attests to that
By the way Mim : Catholics do not worship idols even though there are statues in the churches (they are our "family photo album", like the one you probably have at home).
I know Many protestants (even pastors) who worship money, particularly in the "health and wealth gospel" branches, and that is a true idol, without being necessarily a statue

It is heresy to believe that I should need the assistance of a priest to talk to GOD who would send his son to be tortured and executed so that I could live forever.

According to Roman Catholics... yes.
They believe their Church is the one true faith.
According to the true, universal Church of Jesus Christ... no.
This includes all Christians who have been chosen and believe in Christ, not just the Roman Catholic Church.

As Christians, we are not justified by our religious affiliation, but by the Spiritual redemption and sanctification found in Jesus Christ. To Him belongs all glory, honor, and power... forever.

Its the other way around; Catholicism became political and only the priests could interpret the Bible so they were able to lead the people away from it's teachings so they could control them better.
