how many True Denominations are there in Protestantism?
As in, it can't be 30000+ because a lot just fall under some of the most know ones. Like a lot of the denominations would fall out the Baptists, and then some would fall under Methodist and some would fall under Evangelical like in all actuality, Mormonism would fall under Evangelical.
So how many True Denominations are there?
True John, but they still fall under Baptist. ^_^
And since the Bible was finish, you technically don't need to be apart of any apostolicLyucceded church because your salvation is found by the teachings in the Bible, which is finished. There's no more to it because "it is finished" ^_^
Catholic. Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal, Greek Orthodox, Episcopal, Lutheran, Adventist, Congregationalist, Presbyterian: This is probably all of the main ones. From these sprang the other 60,000 plus.
Ironically, The Bible says, "Let there be no divisions among you".
No offense to you personally, but true denominations don't exist. Each one feels that they are true and the rest are false. It's all competitive nonsense.
Even in revelation it speaks of all the false religions there would be in the world. Today there is an endless sea of them and they all quarrel.
If there was a 'correct' religion, it would have been mentioned in revelation as well. Therefore, they are all false. The True church exists within the heart of an individual.
its not the denomination that saves only Jesus there are true Christians and they could be in any church but the denomination is not so important. knowing Jesus is.
None, Protestantism is merely a number of break away cults that formed in protest to the corruption of the Roman Catholic Church.
They all preach variations to the original faith demonstrating they are not inspired by the same Holy Spirit as was the true Churches testified of in the Bible.
None are built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, rather they were formed by people like Henry 8Th or the fallen Roman monk Martin Luther etc.
Everyone`s friend and David get my vote on this one, besides where does it say that Jesus told the Apostles`You are Peter and on this rock I will build My `Churches`
I don't think anyone knows for sure, as there is no "Religion Registration office" Anyone can start a church. I know churches which meet at Movie Theaters, people's living rooms, warehouses, rent space at malls, etc. None of these local churches have any connection to another church and don't follow the teachings of a larger church or denomination. I think the estimates might be based on some surveys and looking at the Tax filing records. I've heard 33,000, 38,000 etc. so the fact that there are over a 10% variances on the numbers being quoted means no one knows for sure. BUT every estimate I've seen has put the number way above 25,000.
It's not fair to lump these distinct churches in with other denominations if they themselves don't consider themselves to be part of that religion OR have no formal connection to them.
Likewise, if the religion has no central authority to maintain consistency amongst their members, then again.. how can we really lump them together?
For example.. The LDS church has a very distinct structure and hierarchy from other evangelical churches. Their doctrines are consistent within their own churches, but they contrast quite a bit to the doctrines held by most evangelical churches.
I mean I think it is only fair to respect the fact that they have full and total autonomy and treat them as a separate denomination.
Contrast that to the Catholic church, which although it allows local dioceses and parish's to operate with autonomy, BUT doctrinally, they all adhere the to the same teachings.
The issue is even more complex that this.. for example:
The Baptist church that my Wife attends, has no connection to the 3 other Baptist churches in the same town. They do not meet to decide doctrinal issues, they do not coordinate financial information, they do not even coordinate church activities that often. So while they all say they are "Baptist" churches.. they barely even acknowledge the existence of each other...so HOW organized can they be?
So how similar are they? Do we consider them the same denomination which implies unity, even if they don't coordinate their doctrines at all? How do they even KNOW they are both Baptist and following the same doctrines if they don't communicate? if they don't check with each other?
