Default Protestantism is more conventional and sophisticated form of Christianity?

I sometimes feel Catholic is old-fashioned form of Christianity, and Protestantism is more conventional and sophisticated form of Christianity. What do you think? I sometimes think it may not be absolutely necessary to follow ROMAN Catholic Church, because it is just a very very large Christian Church.

It's just Catholicism without the hierarchy.

I think that there is nothing sophisticated about believing in a myth.

Hello,

Unfortunately though the 4 initial Protestant groups continually split amongst themselves like a dividing cell so that by now there are over 30,000 different churches claiming they hold the truth on things. That's hardly shows more convention and sophistication in my books. That's what happens to any organizations that lack good discipline and leadership.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

Denominations are not from God they are a confusion of the Truth !

Being Born Again into the Family of God is an individual experience.

Just Like you were born physically !

You are also born again spiritually !

Being a Christian is not a Group experience.

Being Religious Is.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is about How each Man or Woman can make peace with God.

(John 3:3 KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

(John 3:4 KJV) Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

(John 3:5 KJV) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

(John 3:6 KJV) That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

(John 3:7 KJV) Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

(John 3:8 KJV) The wind blower where it Lisbeth, and thou hear est the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it comet, and whither it Goethe: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

(John 3:9 KJV) Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

(John 3:10 KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

(John 3:11 KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

(John 3:12 KJV) If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

(John 3:13 KJV) And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

(John 3:14 KJV) And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

(John 3:15 KJV) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

(John 3:16 KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

(John 3:17 KJV) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

(John 3:18 KJV) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

(John 3:19 KJV) And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

(John 3:20 KJV) For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

(John 3:21 KJV) But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

The only true/real reason to belong to a church is because the church and the pastor teach & practice only what the Bible teaches. The Bible says "Earnestly contend for the faith that was delivered to the saints of old" Jude 3. The Bible describes this "faith" as the genuine faith of the Christian in Rev. 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints. Here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus" The commandments and Jesus' teachings are the center of the church and must be upheld.
Happy Sabbath :-)

I wouldn't necessarily say it's more conventional or sophisticated. Catholicism retains some of the most highly complex and sophisticated theology within Christendom. Compare the Cathechism of the Catholic Church to the average Protestant doctrinal statement for a comparison/contrast exercise. As for being more conventional, Catholicism existed first, so if anything, Protestantism involved a reaction against convention. Martin Luther's act of nailing the 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg church was hardly conventional. The good thing is that Christianity is a fairly large umbrella. There's room for Catholicism, Protestantism and a variety of other approaches.

You must go where you are being fed. Now this may be a bias answer to you because I am Protestant but I am dating a Catholic woman. I could go either way. But I am also a history/theology buff. I have studied the Papal Bulls, the 30 years war, and Martin Luther's reasoning's. I have looked at both sides of the coin and know that it is not what separates us but how we are alike--basically we are all Christians and believe in God. Some of us just have different ways expressing it.

Now this is just me but these are reasons why I can't follow the Catholic church. I don't believe in the Apocrypha sense they were not among the dead sea scrolls and some of them have misleading or odd stories in them.

Two, I have heard the Catholics (or at least a couple of priests) rant about Martin Luther and how evil he was. Well Martin only wanted everyone to enjoy God's grace and not the rich. The wealthy could pay for their sins to be washed away and Luther didn't believe in that. He believed that God is naturally graceful and forgives all sins. You don't have to PAY the church money. Also, Luther felt that everyone should have a personal relationship with God. He felt the Bible should be made for everyone to read and not just the clergy or the wealthy.

Because of these "heretic" thoughts, Europe eventually came to the 30 years war in the 1600s where Gustavus Adolphus (Swedish King) helped out in the war and divided Protestant Europe (North) and Catholic Europe (South). This has been like this to this day.

Now knowing all that bit of information, I still gave the Catholic church a chance despite them still believing in indulgences and choosing the successors from the "top to bottom." This means that people in the clergy choose individuals like a Pope or Bishop while someone in a Protestant church is voted by the people (bottom up). Also, the recent accusations and events of the Catholic church also is a cause for concern.

But where ever you go you will be blessed. True Catholics and true Protestants are hard to come by now in days. Mother Teresa is a shining example of a true Catholic. As is Billy Graham for Protestants.

My suggestion is that you research yourself and use your mind and heart to guide you. Pray, and ask God to lead you. Visit both and get use to the different environments. If going Protestant--I suggest Baptist and not those ones that suddenly break out into tongues.

Good luck to you my friend. I hope you find what you are looking for. Both religions are great and you will still be worshiping Christ either way. You are not burning in hell for choosing one or the other. Both religions have their ups and downs but moreover, I am fed and like to think that I continuously grow in the lord while being a Protestant. I really didn't get fed at the Catholic church, but if you do then great!

Christianity is not a cake walk though. The world trumps down on us and makes fun of our beliefs. They are tolerant to all but Christians--but by you basing your faith on one of these two branches, I have nothing but respect for you as you are making a sacrifice just as Jesus did. God bless you and may your path always shine brighter each new day!

It got rid of some of the more superstitious and corrupt practices in the RC church which existed at the time. By now, the RC church has rid itself of most of these.

Some Protestant churches are busy replacing the old RC superstitions and corruption with superstitions and corruption of their own.

Young Earth creationism
Faith healing
The rapture / tribulation / apocalypse "soon".
Prosperity "gospel"
Involvement in politics
The pay for a prayer scam is no different from the indulgences sold by the RC church some hundreds of years ago.

It depends on what you mean.

As RC's have been around for nearly 1000 years (longer, according to them), and they have built a fairly large and complicated structure, they can be very sophisticated. The "high" churches often are - this would include the RC, and also the Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, and others like them.

Some Protestant churches are pretty basic. Some do not require their pastors to have degrees in Theology, for example, and some require no university training at all. They believe the Holy Spirit will act in their religious leaders, and additional training may not be needed. Right or wrong, this is pretty unsophisticated!

I think you've got way too much time on your hands. Why don't you get a volunteer hobby like helping the St. Vincent DE Paul society minister to the poor at a thrift shop or something. Are you joking? Do you have any idea how much more vast and diverse the Catholic Church is that all of Protestantism combined? Even the people who claim not to be Protestants, who worship Jesus Christ, who are baptized, all these folks, the Protestants and us Catholics are part of the same Church. We have different ways of expressing it, but non-Catholic expression is severely limited in comparison to the fullness and richness of Catholicism. Gimme a break, you are just bored because your faith is hanging their limp like a wet noodle. Get it go in' dude. Do they have an Oktoberfest at your parish? Get involved you loser. Lil ;-p
