True, because Catholicism was made illegal and entire countries forced to convert to Protestantism.

Hello,

For a short spell that was true for which the Counter Reformation came to be.

With due respect to Gerty above, politics played a big factor. The Germanic Kings and Emperors were constantly quarreling with the Catholic church from the fall of Rome to that time. The state and religion were intertwined. Often both the king and pope did not recognize where their job ended and the others began. So when the Reformation got going the Germanic leaders were happy to protect, support and arm the Reformers and later convert themselves and put down or greatly discourage their Catholic subjects who did not follow suit.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

People are leaving all forms of Christianity. Just a side effect from living in the 21st century I guess.

True in part but don't forget some other factors.

There has been a lose of power of the Catholic Church from worldly leaders not giving it backing as they once did. Of course the Catholic Church relied on forcing followers to follow.

Protestant reformation although having good intentions from some of its founders, had backing from leaderships that also had other agendas. Those other agendas had to do with breaking completely free from the Roman empire completely (as in religious control and attitudes).

After the Catholic Church lost power and influence they were open then to scrutiny. This brought out and publicized all of their bad works which were quite evident. They lost a lot of followers because of this as these ones left because their good conscience could not see the validity in how it actually served God.
