They really were in need of renovation. They had become top heavy and opulent.

Unfortunately, when they did reform they went in a different direction and widened the gap.

I must have missed it. There are supposedly 33,000 different sects of Christianity in the world, and only one of them is "Roman Catholicism".

How's that for effective?

i thought the Inquisition went quite well actually, and quickly too.

It didn't. They fought Martin Luther very quickly but lost out to the power of the new German merchant class. Then things got really ugly.

What effective challenge? All they did was to incorporate some of the protestant dogma to try to keep their hold on the masses.

Choose want you think is good is good for you.Religions is like Politics,that all.As soon you know is a God and be a good person,the religion really is no much important,at least for me. I am catholic,but I don't believe in priest.Confesion with God(no with the priest).I believe that all religion are similes but not equals.And all of them ,have some mistakes.Is my opinion.
