Is Cathaholism closer to polytheism than Protestantism?
From what I know of Cathaholics, these guys will sometimes pray to their god concept, they will pray to this Mary woman who they believe was the mother of their savior and they will also pray to long dead people who they refer to as saints. To me, the concept of believing in a god is similar to the concept of believing an invisible entity being able to alter reality in some way. Whether it?s protecting the believer from harm or bestowing miracles in times of need; only invisible entities can do this. So, to Cathaholics, even though these Saints and this Mary woman are not equivalent to their god concept, they still are invisible, they exist somewhere and they have the power to alter reality. So Cathaholics are really just polytheists in denial right?
Protestants have a concept of their Jesus and their god being two separate entities, even though they deny it, but it?s more like monotheism with just a hint of polytheism, right? Whereas Cathaholism is more like polytheism with an appearance of monotheism, would?t you agree?
Personally, I dint agree with praying to the Saints or Mary, even if they can hear us. I think, hey if all prayers go to God, why not go to Him ourselves??
I dint want to sound mean, because I respect Catholicism, but personally they get a little carried away with saints and Mary. But, I dint want to knock another friend that tries to follow God
Second of all, we worship the One and only God, the Holy Trinity, the Son, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. We do NOT worship Mary, or the saints. We honor them, and ask them to pray for us, we do NOT pray to them, this is a common misconception. It is pretty obvious you are ignorant of the Catholic Church to say this. Protestants worship One God too, the same as Catholics do.
Catholics may pray to saints and to Mary the mother of god (Our Lady) to intercede for them. Petitioning a saint to communicate with god for you is a common thing in the catholic church. However Catholicism is still a monotheistic faith. The holy trinity: father, son and holy ghost are all seen as one and the same.
Catholicism ( please learn to spell it correctly) is Christian. They just, unlike protestants, have respect for "fathers and mothers in the faith". You have it wrong with protestants as well - Jesus and god are separate and yet one. The holy trinity idea is that "god is three AND god is one, it's a mystery which is beyond what human thinking can comprehend"
Catholicism is a broad term for the body of the Catholic faith, its theologies and doctrines, its liturgical, ethical, spiritual, and behavioral characteristics, as well as a religious people as a whole. Depending on the understanding of the word "Catholic", it may refer to the Roman Catholic Church, namely the Christians living in communion with the Church of Rome. More broadly, it refers to many churches, including the Roman Catholic Church and others not in communion with it, that claim continuity with the Catholic Church before separation into Greek or Eastern and Latin or Western. Churches that make this claim of continuity include the Roman Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Oriental Orthodox churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, the Old Catholic churches and the churches of the Anglican Communion. The claim of continuity may be based on Apostolic Succession, especially in conjunction with adherence to the Nicene Creed. Some interpret Catholicism as adherence to the traditional beliefs that Protestant Reformers were denied, as with the Oxford Movement.
Catholicism is distinguished from other forms of Christianity in its particular understanding and commitment to tradition, the sacraments, the mediation between God, and communion. Catholicism can include a monastic life, religious orders, a religious appreciation of the arts, a communal understanding of sin and redemption, missionary activity, and, in the Roman Catholic Church, papacy.
I do not agree with many things the Catholics do, since all glory should go to God, and I agree on your point about Catholics. But, they also worship idols. In the Ten Commandments it says to not worship idols. And:
2 Kings 17:12
"They worshiped idols, though the LORD had said, 'You shall not do this.'"
They don't even follow the Bible, so I don't understand their religion at all.
But Protestants believe in the Trinity, in which Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are all God.
We sometimes direct prayers toward Mary and the saints because they are in Heaven with Jesus. We are not praying TO them, we are asking them to ask Jesus to consider our prayers because they are right there with Him.
Catholics also believe God is three in one, or the Trinity. He is God, the father AND Jesus the Son AND the Holy Spirit.
Monotheistic.
That may be hard for the simple human mind to comprehend, but, hey, He is God and can do anything.
Honestly, I just cannot get enough of this girl! Do not stone me when I come into OR later tonight - yes, I may operate at a Cathaholic hospital but you need a little payback after that little stunt you pulled on me last week, you lovely folks at St. Anthony's Catholic hospital.
