Christians: Why chose between catholicism and protestantism if your so sure of your g
I'm atheist and I can't understand the idea of having a religion full stop. But if both sects of the same religion have the same teachings then why chose one over the other. Did you chose to be catholic so you could get communion and confirmation money. I know I did =)
Both do not teach the same.
Roman Catholics view man made tradition to be on par and in some areas above the Word of God.
Protestants, tend to accept the Bible as their supreme authority in matters of faith.
I haven't chosen between them. I am a Catholic, founded by Jesus Christ himself. Protestantism, whatever affiliation, has been founded by man. Protestants don't believe what Catholics have been telling them actually happens in our religion and they lie and make things up about it. I know I am right.
I guess you becoming a Catholic for the money is evidence that without religion there are no morals. Interesting! I was going the other way until now.
See what I mean? Carl doesn't have a clue as to what he's talking about when he speaks about the teachings of Catholicism nor does he know his Christian history.
Lil
Man was I jealous of my best friend who was catholic who got to wear that wedding dress at the age of 8!! "But honey, we aren't catholic" is what my mother would say-Lil.
I have chosen to follow the bible. I have accepted it as truth and life giving words.
Many of us protestants believe the Roman Cath church has strayed from bible teachings starting when Mart Luther tried to reform the church because of buying of sins and buying loved ones out of purgatory.
It's about not following the traditions of man and following what we believe to be the word of God.
Catholics and Protestants don't teach the same thing.
In fact, not even all Protestants teach the same thing.
However, I agree with you that it should all be more about belief than religion.
Here's the difference between Catholicism and Christianity for your records so you can see clearly how many Protestants view Catholicism as a different teaching:
One believes in God, the other believes in the Pope, granting him power as if he is God.
One prays to God, the other prays to statues of saints (most of which were statues of former pagan deities).
One confesses their sins to God, the other confesses their sin to a priest.
One seeks absolution from God, the other from a priest.
One keeps the sabbath, the other does not (though granted, many Protestants keep Sunday instead of Shabbat).
One prays from the heart, the other repeatedly prays a rosary.
One believes Jesus is the only way to heaven, the other believes Mary is a co-redeemer.
One follows the bible, the other doctrines of men (though granted, there are also a few Protestant sects that follow doctrines of men, but they still have rejected some of the Catholic doctrines)..
Roman Catholicism does not teach the same thing as Protestantism. Roman Catholicism trusts in the fallible traditions of man over the inerrant word of God in the Bible.
I'm atheist too, but i was once christian. and i know that there are differences. The catholic church has confession for example. They kneel a lot and it always goes up and down and up and down... and yea. so there are differences. it smells bad in catholic churches since they use incense a lot.
Thats why you are an atheist now. Those who know the Lord, know what they know. sorry. THere is a creator. If you search and seek, you will find out. not through Internet.
I choose Christ as my head, my leader. I say I can read Scripture and understand it. The Jews believed in having all their People literate and able to read the Torah....
The Roman Catholic is "The Holy Mother" Church.. She claims to be The "ONE". Yet, in the bible, the Church is no "Holy Mother" at all. Not even close.. The Church is us, the saints, all who are in Christ. We are his body.
We do not ritually eat his body and bloody sacrificed anew each day on the altar.
We have Christ in us, literally, for real, a Spirit, the Holy Spirit.
I believe that Christ's work is once for all, it is sufficient. By Grace we are saved. It is finished.
We don't have a set of rules and rituals, some "new old Jewish" system of rules and daily sacrifice.
I have the New Wine. Christ.
The RCC would have had me killed for saying this in the past.
It is a question of who is holier-than-everyone-else.
"What harm would it do, if a man told a good strong lie for the sake of the good and for the Christian church ? a lie out of necessity, a useful lie, a helpful lie, such lies would not be against God, he would accept them." - Martin Luther
I was born and raised Roman Catholic -- and some 50+ years later, I am far more in love with the Church than ever -- while my parents and only sibling left some 30+ years ago.
I remain Catholic because it alone goes all the way back to Jesus and the Apostles. It alone has everything I need for life's journey -- grace, the example of countless saints (both living and dead), the Virgin Mary to imitate in her openness to the Holy Spirit, a community of fellow believers with which to worship and who supports me; Sacraments, Reconciliation and most of all, the True Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. In the past 3 years I have suffered terribly -- job loss, homelessness, loss of relationships and much, much more. People have told me that even with all of that I "have remained faithful" -- to my relationship with God and the Eucharist. Bread of Life...Living Bread that nourishes my soul. As Dorothy Day once said, "I can endure anything between two Eucharists". In other words, the Eucharist of last Sunday protects me spiritually -- and heals me -- and I have the hope and anticipation of next Sunday's Eucharist to keep me going. It's the greatest antidote to whatever "plagues" me -- even my own sinfulness! No other Church can even come close to offering that.
<<Christians: Why chose between Catholicism and protestantism if your so sure of your god?>>
It is entirely possible for one to be sure of their devotion to God, but not necessarily sure which is the best way to worship God.
That is why there are different religions, and different denominations within religions.
<<I'm atheist and I can't understand the idea of having a religion full stop.>>
Of course you don't understand. You're atheist.
<<But if both sects of the same religion have the same teachings then why chose one over the other.>>
Again, because different people have different ideas on what way is best when it comes to worshiping God. They make the mistake of searching for which Church is "best for them" when they really should be on the lookout for which Church is "best for God".
<<Did you chose to be catholic so you could get communion and confirmation money. I know I did =)>>
Well, that was rather greedy of you.
Do you not realize that, if it hasn't already happened, someday you'll realize that money is gone; wasted., What really counts is your spirituality. That can always be with you.
No you dint know a thing about it, catholics and born again Christians doesn't have the same teachings.
When you inside catholic church, threes a lot of idols curved from woods, cement, bronze or gold..
When the bible clearly says that no idols, for God is a spirit and we worship him in spirit and in truth...
We choose to follow only what the bible says, but we dint condemn Catholics, its just they have some wrong practice that should be eliminated and we are not here to please people, we are here to please God, follow him.
