The Protestants split from the Catholic Church because of flaws in the way the church was ruined. Martin Luther was the first formal Reformer, even though there were many people already complaining. The Pilgrims who came to America split ted from Anglicanism, or the Church of England, which split ted from Catholicism. It is like a domino effect: once the first person responded to the Catholic Church, other people helped build on the repines.

use spell check.

Protestant were protesting Catholics way of handling business.
Such as:
the selling of indulgence(forgiveness of sin)
the selling of church offices (if you gits enough money, your son can be bishop, or cardinal, heck even the pope himself)
threes also Church doctrines like, free will, predestination, how many gods there were, one god, two gods, three gods ya
and the fact that the church was very secular than spiritual. (who ever heard of the pope waging war. well the kings of France and Germany did, since the pope was in their back yard most of the time)

In the end its all about power baby!

In England, the split from the Catholic Church had NOTHING to do with the Protestant Reformation. The Anglican church was formed because the Catholic Church-the Pope-would not annul the marriage of Henry VIII so he could marry another lady to enable him to try to produce a male heir to the throne.

When the Catholic Church refused (and there is another story that involves family matters between the Pope and Henry), Henry took over the Catholic Church, and made himself the head. He executed the Archbishop of Canterbury and installed his own head.

Protestantism in England came later with the Puritans and the Presbyterians who were breaking away from the Anglican church when it would not reform to meet their needs.
