Both believe the claims of Jesus Christ to be the promised Messiah of Israel, the savior through which the sins of the world are taken away so that man can be reconciled to God.
Protestants and Catholics worship differently, use ritual differently, and are organized differently, but they're the same sort of beliefs. In the same way, English Parliment and the U.S. Congress function differently, the President is elected differently, but both nations are free countries.
Variety is the spice of life, isn't it? There's no "one size fits all" method of worship.
Catholicisn came up first... about 500 years ago the was a protest led by Martin Luther now we got hundreds of different Christian brands to choose from...
In the early days of Christianity the Roman Empire religion was the free worship of a variety of classical Gods. Even the Roman Caesar was also worshiped as a God. In due course Christianity was established as the State religion for the Roman Empire on a smooth transition of power from Caesar God to the Pope. By then, EVERYBODY IN THE ROMAN EMPIRE HAD TO BE A SUBMISSIVE CHRISTIAN under supervision of the Roman Clergy! The Holy Roman Inquisition was instituted according to the Bible rules (Deu 17:12-13!). American Christianity today is working hard to politically ?RESTORE? this kind of religious tyranny so they can start ?HANGING? (spiritually speaking) all sorts of sinful witches like they did in old Salem, Mass!
The Jews worshiped an exclusive narcosis oriented Deity through a Clergy of the LEVITE family. They created an hereditary Jewish Priesthood. The Moses character was a LEVITE.
In a RADICAL departure from the TRADITIONAL JEWISH 1st Commandment, ?THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GOD? the NT Bible writers have the character Jesus teaching to GIVE FIRST TO CAESAR GOD what belongs to him and whatever is left over give it to the Jewish God! They also approved eating PORK!
Acts 10:15-16 (NIV) The VOICE spoke to him* (*to Saint Peter, the first Pope!) a second time, ?Do not call anything impure* (*all kinds of porky animals) that God has made clean.?* (*THE NEVER CHANGING GOD is NOW telling Saint Peter to eat pigs). This happened three times* (*for each member of the Holy Trinity!) and immediately the sheet* (*full of pigs and all sorts of ?unclean? animals including dogs) was taken back to Heaven.
Heaven is full of pigs. No religious Jew would want to go there! Heaven is only for non-vegetarian pork eating Christians! The first thing that Saint Peter learned from this HOLY DREAM was that everything he knew as a Jew is WRONG! He forgot that Jesus already made ALL FOODS CLEAN (Mark 7:19). THE VERY FIRST PERSON that Saint Peter wanted to tell all about it was a ROMAN Centurion by the name of Cornelius! The ROMANS would never conform to the Jewish religious traditions. To make sure that the message is loud and clear Saint Peter, under Saint Paul?s pressure is sacrificing his Jewish lifestyle to make Christianity acceptable in the ROMAN Empire (Gal 2:11-15). PETER IS NOW A ROMAN CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN! NO PROTESTANT OR ANY OFFSHOOT OF THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION CAN DENY THIS FACT IN THE BIBLE STORIES!
1 Peter 1:19-20 ?with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot* (*but full of ROMAN soldiers? spit as evidence of ROMAN superiority over ?The King of the Jews?): who verily* (*NO BULL CRAP!) was foreordained BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD* (*in essence ?God? created this HUMONGOUS UNIVERSE to have his ?ONLY SON? nailed to a HOLY ROMAN CROSS in full submission to the ROMAN authorities!).
Only a bunch of VERY SUCCESSFUL religious Holy Book writing hustlers would dream up a story like this one! Saint Paul used to be an ASSASSIN of Jews of the wrong Jewish brand! The Bible writers have him and Saint Peter promoting a ?Holy Father God? having his ?ONLY BEGOTTEN GOD THE SON JESUS CHRIST? bathed in ROMAN soldiers? spit nailed to a HOLY ROMAN CROSS BEFORE THE ?CREATION? OF THIS HUMONGOUS UNIVERSE so the Christian Clergy and the Preachers can have a decent source of income!
Saint Peter, if he ever existed was instrumental imposing the traditional 10% tithe (bite) of the Christians? gross income into the newly founded ROMAN religion! The ending story in Acts 5:1-11 is, ?Then the young men came in and, finding her dead* (*at Saint Peter?s feet for not paying the FULL PROMISED DUES TO THE CHURCH), carried her out and buried her beside her husband!* (*this was done on the spot without telling any next of kin!) GREAT FEAR SEIZED THE WHOLE CHURCH AND ALL WHO HEARD ABOUT THESE EVENTS??* (*ALL Christians! In the real world the MAFIA would give a fair warning BEFORE KILLING anybody!)
Jesus taught to pay taxes to Caesar God. Saint Paul was a proud Roman citizen! He was careful to instruct the ROMAN Christians to PAY taxes AND TO OBEY CAESAR GOD!
ROMANS 13:1-7 (KJV) ?For this cause PAY YE TRIBUTE* (*tax, first to Caesar God like Jesus said!) also: for they are God's ministers* (*the ROMAN government works for ?GOD? and that is why you must pay taxes), attending CONTINUALLY UPON THIS VERY THING* (*Some stubborn Christians were fed to the lions at the Roman Circus, for not getting this FULL message!)
These are the roots of American Christianity! Islam is much worse!
Both teach the essential truths about Christ, but each denomination has its share of error. The Church will be one and perfect only when Jesus gathers us all home.
Both are religions -- that's true. Both preach a slightly different version of Christian fairy tales -- that's true. Both fairy tales have many followers who indulge in a lot of denial and self deception -- that's true. Neither one is true in the sense that it's dogma is true -- dogma is never true or false, it's just hocks-pocus!
The "tureens" of one religion over another is not in question, but the deposit of faith that has been preserved is more true in the Catholic than in the protestant, because of the huge library they have, and the things they have preserved and been entrusted to keep, that no other religion has. (for instance, the body of believers once housed several relics that were venerated at that time and after wards in places that you can go to pilgrimages and stuff to see.)
I believe protestantism is closer to he truth than roman Catholicism, just look at the pomp and splendor of the roman catholic churches, their priests are poorly paid, and the ones in Rome look down their noses at those beggars on St. Peter's square, much like the rich man and Lazarus, and a far cry from the lowly stable in Which Christ our Lord was born. the true faith are the one who acknowledge Christ as Lord and Saviour and Him being head of the church.
No one knows. Unless you have met God, than no, you do not know. Being humble in the eyes of God is important, and people who look at their religion and say, "I'm right, you're wrong" are arrogant and prideful. There is no answer.
Biblical speaking Catholicism, remember that bible quote I'm not sure how it goes but its something like
Peter, yo are rock, and upon this rock i shall build my church, and i will give you the keys to the kingdom and all the forces of Hades shall not prevail against it. and whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what you loose shall be loosed in heaven.
Peter went and founded the Roman Catholic church, and Peter basically had disciples and called the disciples of Christ since he taught them what Christ taught him and the had disciples and so on and so on, so the pope is a disciple of Christ...
besides that whole the forces of Hades shall not prevail against it proved true how many times were catholic attacked and we are still around, and even t this day we are constantly attacked but we are still a huge faith and a strong faith.
But personally i believe all the christian religions have at least some truth in them.
neither is always correct in their interpretation of the Bible they both have errors in their theology.
Catholics believe that the bread they serve doing communion actually turns to the flesh of Jesus and the wine is actually the blood of Jesus this is the furthest from the truth. Some Protestants believe you should not have music in church singing is okay but no music another false doctrine. So both are wrong in this theology but both are correct in others it is all how they line up with the Bible that is how you tell if they are false or true how they interpret the Bible.
Catholicism is not Christian. Catholicism cannot get anyone into heaven, because Catholicism teaches works for salvation, and that is a false gospel of works (Galatians 1:6-9) that is against JESUS'S free gift of salvation!
And Catholicism will not give you a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus, which is what JESUS wants with you!
So, you need to get away from Catholicism, and instead, to believe in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven! John 3:16! !
It's clear from the Book of Acts in the Bible that catholics didn't even exist during the days of Acts. And the SEVEN CHURCHES in Revelation, all of which existed before 100 AD, NONE of them were catholic! Catholicism didn't exist for over 300 years after Jesus. And Catholicism didn't exist for over 200 years after the Bible was complete and compiled. Those in the Book of Acts are the first Christians, and they believed what would be called fundamentalist doctrine today. ANYONE can read the Book of Acts for themselves and see. Had Catholicism existed during the time of Acts, the first Christians would have rejected Catholicism completely.
Also there's TONS of Christians who also completely rejected Catholicism, long before Martin Luther was even born. Catholicism murdered millions and millions of Christians. :*(
So not only is it wrong for anyone to say that "catholics were the first Christians", but this blows away the catholic claim that "no churches existed other than the catholic church, until Martin Luther".
Every "pope" is a false prophet. And there is no "pope" in the Bible.
There were ALWAYS saved believers outside the catholic cult, who knew Catholicism cannot save anyone.
Catholicism cannot save. Only believing in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, is what saves!
So, catholics need to get away from Catholicism, and instead, to believe in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven!
Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much! And the Trinity is true!
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to hell, is by believing in JESUS for His free gift of eternal life in heaven, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what! John 3:16, John 6:47!
Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in JESUS for His free gift of salvation! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die!

Well, based solely on the Bible we find that Jesus gave many promises about and to His Church. He said that His Church was an enduring Church that will last until the Parousia. He said that this Church would never fall into apostasy saying the gates of hell will never prevail against it. The Bible says that the Church is the "pillar and foundation of the truth". This Church is the Catholic Church.
The Protestants have none of these promises nor does it have any teaching authority like the Church. While it contains some truth it also contains heresy.
So according to the Bible and the testimony of Jesus Himself the Catholic Church is true.
Most protestant churches teach some true things, but they also teach many falsehoods. Among the important falsehoods is the belief that all divine revelation is contained in The Bible (which The Bible itself says is not true), the claim that the Eucharist is merely symbolic (which contradicts Paul's letters and the words of Jesus Christ Himself), the claim that a valid marriage is not sacramental, and the claim that salvation is by faith alone with works playing no essential role, something Jesus Christ plainly told us is false in the 25Th chapter of Matthew's gospel.
Jesus Christ makes Himself most fully available to the world through the Catholic Church. I hope and pray that I will be received into Heaven in eternity, and that I will sing to God with hymns of praise in perfect harmony with many former protestants, Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, pantheists, atheists and agnostics. While in this world I will concede not one single soul to Satan. I hope and pray that Hell for eternity is the domain of only Satan and his demons.
The surest way for a person to receive salvation is to embrace Jesus Christ eagerly and fully through the Catholic Church. The Church makes truly substantially available Jesus Christ every day in the Eucharist, a truly dazzling and beautiful gift to the world. This alone is reason to stop protesting and join the rest of us in communion in The Catholic Church.

EDIT: A great book was written only a few years ago by Father Richard Neuhaus, a former Lutheran minister. Father Neuhaus wrote quite a lot, most of which I have not read. I'm sure this failure of mine is to my detriment.
The book I recommend is "Catholic Matters."
Father Neuhaus makes an exhaustively compelling case for why Christians should be Catholic.
