Catholicism was illegal, and many Catholics were martyred for the faith.

Even though I was raised in a Protestant congregation ( do not try to tell them that at present though), the 'Protestant Bible' subtracts from the Catholic Bible. The way I 'resolved' the difference was the Dead Sea Scrolls which were written prior to 'Christ birth' here on Earth according to dating methods. (See my Y profile presently). There are other variations from God's word to, but that is another story.

Sir Thomas More's final words on July 6, 1535 before he was beheaded for treason for refusing to swear to the Act of Succession and the Oath of Supremacy were:

"The King's good servant, but God's First."

With love in Christ.
