Default Why do I get thumbs down for saying that Protestantism...?

Didn't come about until the 1500s?

People can't handle facts or something?

No, many people on R&S don't like facts, they tend to screw up their opinions.

Some people believe that it is the true Christian church as practiced by the Apostles.

So they don't see the break with Rome as a beginning, they see it as a liberation from centuries of false Catholic teachings.

Maybe it was something else you said at the same time? Though yes, some people don't seem to know any history.

The Protestants have rewritten history to say that the true church existed before Catholics and these groups quietly existed during Catholic power until they could break away in the 1500s.

It shouldn't surprise you. This section is a bit like real life. Some people couldn't handle facts if their very lives depended on it.
Don't let it bother you.

some people just have to put in their 2 cents worth whether it is warranted or not.

I'm with answer number 2. If you got a thumbs down, you at least know someone read your answer and thought about it enough to respond.

thumbs down is just a difference of opinion, and that is what makes discussion interesting.

I have no idea. Maybe they are just expressing their private contempt for Catholicism. I learned about the Protestant Reformation in history class. From the looks of things back then, it seems to me that the Reformation was inevitable. I know exactly how my church came to be and I don't deny it. People started questioning Catholic doctrine and still do it to this day.

I had an ask er thumb me down then state "You have nothing positive to say" and I used fact, recent fact actually of the sort of kindness that SOME Christians wish to employ. Obviously the ask er didn't want to see that anyone that believes as he does could possibly be anything less than Christ-like.

Showing people fact messes with their world view, or at least what they perceive to be real. People don't like to be told they are wrong. You've just experienced what it's like to get under someones skin. Lil
