Default Doesn't Revelation 17:4 give a description that sounds like the modern Roman Catholic

"The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries."

- NIV

Revelation is heavily figurative. We should leave all condemning judgment to God.

Amen.

No. At first this sounds like the Virgin Mary. Then she would not have filth of her adulteries now would she?

Don't let appearances fool you. Lots of churches use golden cups, even if they are just plated. To some the woman represents the churches that preach a false god, rather than point people to a real Christ, the only One who saves. This woman became rich off the blood of the saints, and the filth of her adulterating the Word of God. It resembles even some secular organizations, too, world systems of false pride, humanism, hypocrisy. You name it.

Everyone has always claimed that the catholic church will be this person, but somehow I don't think it will be that obvious. Just watch the church that will become more and more popular over the next few years, politically, economically, and Thur popularity. To me, THAT's the one which will start collecting the precious stones..... Keeping the form of godliness, denying the power to those who are seeking a true God, only to be introduced to a false god who cannot save. That is the system of the Antichrist. It will look SOpooce, so wholesome, so.... nice. Inside it will be a tomb, full of filth.

We will see.

Not only Roman Catholic Church but all religious systems that go in alliance with political leadership to promote their business. It is the personification of the Spirit.

sure, the author of that book was talking about the roman empire.
the RCC or the universal church of Rome is the last remnant of the roman empire.
