OMG! You fool Demons do not Possess people! its Angels that attack and Possess people to make a example for the church . when people see possession they think Demons did it but they are not at all responsible
With the coming of Christianity, the Original Pagan Gods were blasphemed as monsters. The above quote from the Encyclop?dia Britannica claims that Daemons are lower than Gods. This is partially true in that some are human hybrids [Demi-Gods] who have become both spiritually and physically immortal and have what is called "supernatural powers." The Demons of the Goetia are all Original Pagan Gods. Some such as Asmodeus are Demi-Gods.
Most Anglican dioceses in Canada have at least one priest acting as an exorcist, so, it is not just Roman Catholics. For that matter, I know a woman who is a traditional shaman from the North, who is a Demon hunter and exorcist. She is Christian now, but wasn't for most of her life before that.
Most times, it is movies that show this, and the default setting for "church" in movies is RC.
I should mention that Orthodox Christians also preform exorcisms.
Demonic possession does happen even in tribal cultures, and Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims also have cases of demonic possession. However, many people confuse mental illness with demonic possession and therefore these people are locked away or shunned because of their inflictions.
Many Protestants believe in demonic possession but they usually don't talk about it or choose to keep it hidden from outsiders.
In early Judaism demonic possession was very real and even Rabbis performed exorcisms to cast out the unclean spirits.
Just go to you tube and type in "Buddhist exorcism" and you will find plenty of videos of Buddhist exorcism from Japan, Korea, even Tibet and other places. The difference is that in East Asian the possessions are usually be upset ghosts or even nature spirits and not demons or devils (different cosmology than Christianity though I suppose its possible someone could be possessed by an Aura or rakishShate I've never heard of it).
Personally I don't think there's anything more to this than the acting out of neurosis in a way that is heavily influenced by the culture and that exorcisms are at worst a superstition that interferes with competent psychiatric are and at best a culturally determined form of psychodrama. But then again I tend to take a much more rationalistic view of things than some of the other priests.
Because unfortunately Satan has convinced most people that he does not even exist.
Catholics have been casting out demons ever since Jesus and the Apostles did it.
Modern psychology says that most of the people who had demons cast out of them were probably miraculously cured from schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. But their cures were still miracles.
The Catholic Church believes that real demonic possessions are rare but possible, so they keep a few exorcists around just in case.
The Church has guidelines in place to take great care to exhaust psychological options before calling in an exorcist.

Anglicanism, several Protestant denominations, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), Judaism, Hinduism, Scientology, and Islam also practice some kind of exorcism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exorcism

They do happen. Among Christian circles the idea of possession is mostly dismissed because it is so closely associated with Catholics. There is a growing movement in other branches of Christianity (especially among fundamentalist groups) that people are victims of possession and that ALL bad things that happen to us, or that we do are a result of being possesses. These possessions do not take the form of the possession most people are familiar with, likewise with the exorcisms. In India they do believe in spirit possession, but again, it is not the same as that most are familiar with and the exorcisms are likewise of a different sort. While possessions seems to have been mostly ignored in modern Islam, in centuries past as well is in Prue-Islamic Persia, Babylon, Sumeria and surrounding areas the idea was common and there are many surviving examples of incantations that were used to both conjure demons and spirits and to banish them. Even in Japan in Modern Shinto the belief in spirits possession persists. Mostly though, these possessions and exorcisms go unnoticed by the public at large and they do take place in countries where such things would not even be considered newsworthy.
Really??? When I was in High school I worked at a Chinese Restaurant, The Owner was a Buddhist and actually explained to me that they do have Exorcisms. I guess I would have to say that I believe him (an actual Buddhist) over you (someone who is merely speculating).
