body

Im roman catholic

Soho its kinda ironic you know? getting a serenity prayer tattooed when its a sin?

most Christians believe that the whole tattoos are sinful thing is a misinterpretation. the part in the bible that mentions piercings and tattoos refers to the way in which slave owners branded people to show ownership. people in bible times would pierce and brand their slaves and the passage in the bible is saying that manner of marking someone is a sin. not piercing you own ears or getting tattoos because you want to.

Ive read this passage and alto of things written by biblical scholars and most agree that tattoos are not sinful.

Leviticus 19:28 says "Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord." HOWEVER, you must look at the verse in context. The passage in its entirety deals with the Lord forbidding Pagan practices; this was written in the day when tattoos were primarily a form of Pagan worship.

Romans 14:23 states that "everything that does not come from faith is sin." It sounds to me like you ARE thinking about your tattoo in good faith, and by those standards it does not seem disrespectful or sacrilegious.

Check out the link I've attached. It will most likely answer any question you might have, and does a much better job of explaining than I ever could.
