Default I have decided that I want to convert to Roman Catholicism. How should I go about tel

My mom's side of the family isn't really religious, so I'm not too worried about how they'll take this. My Dad's side is very religious, however. So I'm worried that they'll disown me. My paternal grandfather was a baptist minister. I want to do this because as someone of predominantly Irish ancestry, I believe protestantism was forced upon us by the British in the 16Th and 17Th centuries. This is something I've been thinking about for the past ten years, not just something I decided on a whim.

Ben, don't look into the history of Man, but look to God's Word...If any church is in line with the teaching of Christ, then you can go to what ever church you decide.....

It really isn't about being a baptist, or catholic, it is about following Christ. Having a relationship with Christ. If one of my children were to tell me that they were going to attend another church, i would pray that they would attend a church that teaches as Christ's word says.

If he really loves you, he'll respect your decision.

Instead of deciding by your ancestry, spend much time in prayer and with the scriptures. Let your decision be based on what is true about God Himself, as He speaks of Himself in the scriptures -- not based on historical acts by power hungry rulers.

This is not a matter of personal preference, but a life and death issue, with eternity at stake.

The Romans killed christian saints.

and they tried to get Christians to convert to Roman Catholicism.

and those who didn't were killed.

Tell them you believe that only celibate men can hold religious office, and that women should not be allowed access to effective contraception or divorce because the Pope says so. I'm Irish and I've never believed that, but you should enjoy meeting all those patriotic child-molesting priests who have done so much for our country. Tell them in Latin, they'll really help it sound better. And visit Ireland - or Britain - before you do. Have you tried Wales? Or India? Lots of religious people co-exist in India without giving a thought to British Catholics.

Get ready for porcelain statues of Virgin Mary weeping olive oil, Latin prayers and locking yourself in a tiny confessional box detailing how sinful it was of you to eat that second slice of cheesecake to your Catholic priest!
