No. The majority of Catholic priests are self-less servants of God's people and many have risked their lives in dangerous areas of the world trying to bring health care and education to the world's poorest populations. They take vows of celibacy, which means that they refrain from having sex. It is a great sacrifice to deny oneself that kind of physical intimacy, and is meant to allow them to concentrate on ministering to God's people. Those priests who were like "wolves in sheep's clothing" were not really priests at all, but just disguising themselves as priests so that they could have access to young children. That is what pedophiles do. They are predators and deceivers.
Pedophiles always seek out professions & situations that will allow them access to young children. Pedophilia is a problem in every single profession that has close contact with children, including the clergy from every single denomination, teachers, coaches, counselors, etc. Pedophiles do not care if they molest boys or girls. Some have accused homosexuals of being pedophiles, but this has also been pr oven false.
The media likes to attack the Catholics b/c of a strong anti-Catholic bias, but the problem is evident in all religious personnel.
THe Catholic church made many mistakes, largely out of ignorance about what pedophilia actually is and has since taken steps to change their recruitment & investigation policies.
Too little too late? Sure. However, the media brandishing all Catholic priests as pedophiles is also very wrong. Fewer than 2% of Catholic priests were ever involved in these scandals. This is roughly the same percentage of pedophile members of other ministers, preachers, rabbis and clergy. But the media seldom publicizes them.
