Default Can widowers be ordained as Roman Catholic priests?

Can people who were previously married, and may even have children, join the priesthood?

I'm not even a Christian. Just asking out of pure curiosity.

Yes.

Here's an article about a father of 10 who becomes a priest after his wife's death:

Yes they can, as long as they remain celibate for the rest of their lives.

Yes. "Til Death Do Us Part."

As such, a male widower is no longer married, and becomes eligible to enter the priesthood. Highly uncommon though.

Yes. Priesthood only requires a vow of celibacy, no more sex, the past doesn't matter.

Yes, I have met a couple in San Antonio, Tx. There is even one who was an Anglican Priest, now a Roman Catholic, he even has a family. Check with them in the ArchDiocese of San Antonio, Tx as I am sure many on here will dispute it.

Yes, a priest at my parent's church is a widower. I heard him give a homily (sermon) once when he referred to his children, I thought he was speaking metaphorically at first because I did not realize he was a widower and really does have children.

Maybe rules vary by order, but I believe widows can become nuns also.

Yes.

Men who were married and then their wives died can be ordained a priest. I have met at least one priest in this situation.

Men with young children to support and take care of would not be accepted. But men with adult children would be accepted.

With love in Christ.
