In Thessolonians Paul wrote that the 2ND coming would not happen unless there was a falling away first, this was the great apostasy. All of the churches lost truths, they were missing important doctrine and authority. This is when things like the crusades and indulgences began. The protestant reformation changed many things, but it wasn't until the early 1800s that the true gospel was restored through Joseph Smith. He was given priesthood power.
catholic church formed the canon of new testament.. before the monk martin Luther made his own church and his own version of the bible.. he accepted the same canon from NT.. as well the other protestants denominations.. Pentecostal.. reborn.. etc..Matthew 16:18.. the book of acts.. spoke about the catholic church or universal church..
It's kind of hard to explain 16Th century history when you are forced to restrict your answers to an anthology that was completed in the 2ND century. If you want to know where Protestants and Roman Catholics come from, you need to read a history book.
The Protestant church didn't come for almost 1,600 years AFTER the Catholic Church
ONE CHURCH - Is there to be only one Church or many? According to Scripture, Christ wanted us to be one (John 17:22-23). We are all as a Church to be of one mind and to think the same (Philippians 2:2; Romans 15:5). There is only to be one "faith" (Ephesians 4:3-6), not many. For the Church is Christ's Body and Christ only had one Body, not many. Also, since the Church is Christ's Bride (Ephesians 5:29), can Christ be married to more than one wife (essentially a spiritual form of the the sin of polygamy)? No, Christ can only have one wife (i.e., one Church, not many).
Every Christian believes that Jesus Christ established and sustains a community of faith, hope and love for all believers. This community we call His Church. The Church that Christ founded is the Catholic Church which has a formal earthly structure established by Christ and which continues under His authority and protection.
Jesus did three things that established the framework of His Church. First, He chose humans to carry out His work. He appointed Peter to be the visible head of the Church. Jesus said to Peter, "You are Rock and on this rock I will build my Church." (Matthew 16: 18) Jesus said "build," as in to create a structure. Jesus built His structure on specifically chosen human beings Peter and the apostles.
Second, Jesus gave Peter and the apostles the power and authority to carry out His work. "Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven."(Matthew 16:19; 18:18) "Receive the Holy Spirit, whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven, whose sins you retain, they are retained."(John 20:23)
Third, Jesus gave Peter and the apostles commands as to what that work should be. At the last supper, He commanded, "Do this in memory of Me." (Luke 22:19) He commanded them to "Make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19), and to "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)
The Catholic Church is the only church that can claim to have been founded by Christ personally. Every other church traces its lineage back to a mere human person such as Martin Luther or John Wesley. The Catholic Church can trace its lineage back to Jesus Christ who appointed St. Peter as the first pope. This line of popes has continued unbroken for almost 2,000 years.
God rules, instructs and sanctifies His people through His Church. Under her teaching office, the Catholic Church preserves the Word of God. She is the custodian, keeper, dispenser and interpreter of teachings of Christ. And she accomplishes this under the protection of the Holy Spirit.
FOUR MARKS OF THE TRUE CHURCH
If we wish to locate the Church founded by Jesus, we need to locate the one that has the four chief marks or qualities of his Church. The Church we seek must be one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.
The Church Is One (Rom. 12:5, 1 Cor. 10:17, 12:13, CCC 813?822)
Jesus established only one Church, not a collection of differing churches (Lutheran, Baptist, Anglican, and so on). The Bible says the Church is the bride of Christ (Eph. 5:23?32). Jesus can have but one spouse, and his spouse is the Catholic Church.
His Church also teaches just one set of doctrines, which must be the same as those taught by the apostles (Jude 3). This is the unity of belief to which Scripture calls us (Phil. 1:27, 2:2).
Although some Catholics dissent from officially-taught doctrines, the Church?s official teachers?the pope and the bishops united with him?have never changed any doctrine. Over the centuries, as doctrines are examined more fully, the Church comes to understand them more deeply (John 16:12?13), but it never understands them to mean the opposite of what they once meant.
The Church Is Holy (Eph. 5:25?27, Rev. 19:7?8, CCC 823?829)
By his grace Jesus makes the Church holy, just as he is holy. This dozen?t mean that each member is always holy. Jesus said there would be both good and bad members in the Church (John 6:70), and not all the members would go to heaven (Matt. 7:21?23).
But the Church itself is holy because it is the source of holiness and is the guardian of the special means of grace Jesus established, the sacraments (cf. Eph. 5:26).
The Church Is Catholic (Matt. 28:19?20, Rev. 5:9?10, CCC 830?856)
Jesus? Church is called catholic ("universal" in Greek) because it is his gift to all people. He told his apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of "all nations" (Matt. 28:19?20).
For 2,000 years the Catholic Church has carried out this mission, preaching the good news that Christ died for all men and that he wants all of us to be members of his universal family (Gal. 3:28).
They come from divisions of the Church. Everything that Christ wanted from the Church can be found all throughout the NT, especially the letters where Paul is directly addressing the Churches.
Catholicism came out of ancient Babylon and Egypt all dressed up in different clothes.
The Babylonians and the Egyptians worshiped essentially the same pagan gods, which shows that Catholicism is also a false, pagan religion.
Protestantism came out of Catholicism when Luther nailed his criticisms to the cathedral door, but brought many of those same pagan ideas with them into what became Lutheranism.
The only true Christian Churches down through the ages were/are the Ana-baptists, now known as Baptists. They never were part of the catholic church. They saw the lies and blasphemy and successfully side-stepped it while continuing to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Ask this same question on Goggle, using the same words exactly, and you will find hundreds of answers. Here are some to get you started:
You have to know the history. The Catholic Church fell into corruption and was selling salvation to the masses for money. In the 1500's Martin Luther, himself a Catholic priest, knew that this was the opposite of the gospel of Jesus, and a type of Anti-Christ that was leading people to believe that their good works could get them to heaven. He spoke against the doctrine of the Catholic Church and spoke for the truth of the Bible. Protestantism was formed as many worldwide protested against the false teaching of the Catholic Church. Today, Protestants and Catholics still debate over whether good works can help get someone into heaven. Protestants say 'no', that faith in Christ's work on the cross is all that is required. Catholics say it is faith and works that are required, and thus, the debate continues.
In fact Rome is listed in Daniel and Revelation. The Reformers were interpreting scripture to prove it, which Rome didn't like. They assigned two Jesuits, Alcazar and Ribera to explain those condemning scriptures.
Alcazar studied for a year, and assigned those prophecies before the times of Christ--that is called preterms. Ribera studied for three years and assigned them to the future--of course that is futurism.
Regardless, simple prophecies even talk about their presumption to have changed God's law: Daniel 7:25 "And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time."
I won't waste your time detailing that prophecy, but Catholicism was Church using State to enforce religious dogma.
Protestants did the same; in fact, there is still a death law on the books in Massachusetts for missing church. That is foretold in Revelation as the "image (reproduction) of the Beast."
The United States rose from the wilderness and will cause the world to form a reproduction of the Dark Ages: Revelation 13:11
"And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
13:12 And he exerciser all the power of the first beast before him, and causer the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13:13 And he doth great wonders, so that he Maker fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
13:14 And deceiver them that dwell on the earth by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."
Watch as terrorism compels us to renounce our religious freedom guaranteed in the Constitution. We will re-establish a one-world religion like Catholics and the Eastern Church attempted to do. Millions perished, and it won't work now either.
Islam was raised up with mandates in the Qur'an to kill infidels and they now possess 1/3 of the old Roman Empire as foretold in Revelation 9. See "The Rise, Decline, and Death of Islam as Predicted in the Bible" at http://revelado.org/islam.htm
And the Bible code proves Rome is the Abomination of Desolation that Jesus warned us of: http://abiblecode.com
no , no , and again NO........ Church is the *called out assembly*... We, the believers , are the Church, the *called out assembly*, there is NO mention of Jesus starting a *church* with a label or tittle to it.... Peter was NOT the first pope or the first head of anything..... Peter was an apostle to the Jew..... Paul was the apostle to the Gentile... The people Peter attended to of the spiritual nature, were Jew, they still went Temple, sacrificed, washed as the Priest instructed, etc..... Jesus himself told the apostles to teach and preach to ONLY the Jewish people, the Nation of Israel..... Peter gave to Paul the hand of friendship at the meeting in Jerusalem, they agreed to keep their distance in spiritual matters, Peter to the Jew, Paul to the Gentile.... Peter and Paul lived at the same time and died close in time to each other..... We , has believers are members of a *heavenly church* , NOT an earthly one !!!!! We assemble together to lift each other up, study the word, to correct each other and to keep each other strong in and of faith....... People who follow *legalism* and not God are deceived in so many ways...... Read the Word....... Gods Word... and see all this for yourself !!!! go in peace....... God bless
