Why does Catholicism encourage its members to practice voodo and santeria?
Through out Africa and Latin America many catholics practice both Catholicism and ritualized black magic. Pope John Paul II when visiting Africa told a tribe of Masai that if they converted to Catholicism they wouldn't be betraying their ancestors and I quote!!
Sorry it more like the fun dies
They both go into trances and are possessed by the spirit and then chant, flop on the floor, run around in circles and speak in unknown tongues while listening to drum beats ,believe in miracles manna bred and miracle spring water Miracle olive oil soap and various potions. Speak in Unknown tongues.. ,talking and with God and hearing him (words of wisdom) answer you lifting curses and placing curses both practiced by Fundie pastors and voodoo high priests?potions They also use Vain repetitions ?.
Mat 6:7 - "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
Saying praise Jesus the blood the blood the blood over and over and over again then flopping on the floor and saying thank you Jesus over and over and over.. did?t he hear you the first time ... While practicing the Pagan art of Glossolalia ..
I don't understand how reassuring a tribe that if they converted they wouldn't be betraying their ancestors means it is encouraging them to practice voodoo and Santeria. I agree it could have been worded better, but he was probably just trying to emphasize that their ancestors would have wanted the best for them, and if they find that that is Catholicism, then their ancestors would not be "betrayed" or anything.
Post a source. And how is that encouraging the practice of voodoo and Santeria. The Pope was just calming them down to make them join the catholic faith.
No, you didn't quote. That requires quote marks and a citation. At least in academic circles.
And when did you become Pope ? Far as I can tell what he said is necessarily true. IF Catholicism is the Church instituted by Jesus then being a member can't be bad for the ancestors. How can it.
Let me turn you on to something really enlightening.
This is John Henry Newman, a very great thinker and Bible scholar, and former anti-Catholic.

This is very appropriate to the Masai. I am almost certain Newman was not a Catholic when he gave this remarkable talk.
================================
"Now there is this remarkable fact concerning Elijah and his brethren, that he, who on the Mount of Transfiguration spake with Moses about their common Lord's passion, was not in communion with the Church of Moses in his lifetime, did not worship at the Temple, was cut off from them with whom was "the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the Law, and the service of God, and the promises; whose were the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever." [Rom. ix. 4, 5.] A most remarkable fact certainly, which, while it gives us great comfort, as regards those religious bodies at this day who are deprived of the ordinary channels of grace, is not without its element of encouragement even for us, who, though not without the Apostolical line and the possession of the Sacraments, are separated from the great body of the Church. Now let us dwell on this fact.
It is indeed a most remarkable and gracious providence, that these great Prophets, Elijah and the rest, should have been vouchsafed to revolted Israel; nay, and that they themselves, as their history shows, should have made no effort to set right what had gone so wrong; nay, should not even themselves have paid that hon our to the Mosaic worship which had been enjoined upon all the descendants of Israel. You will say that they wrought miracles; doubtless; but that beforehand was a reason rather why they should have enforced a still stricter obedience to the Law, not a reason for their being silent about it. Hear what Moses had said to them: "When ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which the Lord your God girth you to inherit, and when He girth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety; then there shall be a place which the Lord your God shall choose to cause His Name to dwell there. Thither shall ye bring all that I command you; your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which ye vow unto the Lord." "Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord God." "What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it." [Deut. xii. 10, 11. Exod. xxiii. 17. Deut. xii. 32.] If, then, God sent a Prophet with the power of miracles, this was a reason why the Prophet should be especially rigid in his observance of the Law of the Master who sent him. God sends His Prophets to keep the Law, not to break it. He indeed who gave it might recall it; and a Prophet might be His instrument in recalling it, or in modifying, or in developing it; but while the Law continued, surely it was to be "magnified and made Honorable," not disregarded. Consider our Saviour's example, and you will acknowledge what I say. He came with greater miracles; He was Giver and Lord of the Law; and moreover, He actually came to supersede it; yet how reverently did He treat, how dutifully did He obey, His own ordinances! He went up to the Temple continually, and bade His hearers obey those who sat in Moses' seat; He sent those whom He cured to the Priests; He paid the Temple tribute; He did not destroy, till He had gained (so to say) a right to destroy, in that He had fulfilled. Not till He could say, "It is finished," did the veil of the Temple rend in twain. Miracles, then, and a Prophet's office, are no warrant at all, as the conduct of the Holiest shows us, for the neglect of God's Law. Why then did He dispense with obedience in the instance of Elijah? why do we not hear of Elijah's going up to Jerusalem three times a year? why did he not do hon our to the Priests, and to the Temple service? Even in the last age of the Jewish Church, our Lord said to the Samaritan woman, "Salvation is of the Jews;" [John iv. 22.] and yet Elijah and Elisha, and their brethren, acquiesce in the disorders which surround them; and rather strive to make the best of things as they are, than to bring back a rule of religion which had passed away.

Ive learned not to trust man CZ many times people make things up and then it is down as facts...i would very much be interested in this if u can find me where he indeed said this...i know alto of the people that are Pentecostal dint have a interpreter there to test the spirits..so my job will just be love one another and not deal with the spirits..i just pray Father keep anything that is not of You away from me..In Jesus Name amen....i dint think we are to deal with the spirits..catholic, Pentecost anything..let the Name Jesus deal with it
Edit:however the Bible does say do not say long and repetitive prayers like the pagans do..and the bible never says to pray to saints or Mary...other than that i would be a Catholic...i think i will just pray in my room alone
How does that encourage them to practice such? You are confused honoring your relatives and loving them does not mean you must betray your faith. He was in NO WAY telling them that it was OK to practice voodoo or Santeria. Get it straight.
People can be Catholic and still hang on to family traditions, Santa, the Easter Bunny, they are not Idols because they are not objects of worship.
If an African tribe has a tradition that is not worshiping another Deity, they can keep it. If it is not of the Devil, it is not against God.
You really should read the Catechism instead of just Jack Chick articles. You owe it to yourself to know what you are bashing. Taking others opinions blindly can lead you in the wrong direction.
First of all, native religions are not "black magic". Many native religions pay honor to ancestors and respect the land.
I do know that the head of a Candomble house in Brazil had suggested that the members break with the Catholic Church since they don't have to hide their religion anymore. The Catholic Church was quick to intervene and show tolerance for Candomble because it was going to lose over a million followers.
So, the answer is that the Catholic Church, which is becoming irrelevant, is struggling to hold onto members or get new members.
I can't believe the Pope told Africans that condoms don't protect against HIV.
