Santer?a, also known as Lukum? or Regla DE Ocha, is a set of related religious systems that fuse Catholic/Christian beliefs with traditional Yoruba beliefs. In the Yoruba language, Lukum? means "friends" and also applies to descendants of Yor?b? slaves in Cuba, their music and dance, and the urbanized dialect of the Yor?b? language.
Santeria is a Latin American religion that is similar to Vodun/Voodou. It involves the practice of magi ck a la Vodun, but contains strong elements of Catholicism, particularly with the invocation of saints canonized by the Catholic Church.
Santeria, as said above, is similar to Haitian Voodoo. It is a blend of African religious beliefs and Catholicism. (For example, the deities in Santeria oftentimes are equivalent to Catholic saints). One main difference between Santeria and Voodoo is that Santeria is practiced in primarily Spanish-speaking Caribbean or West Indian countries like Cuba, for instance.
