Agreed. I don't do magic, TBH, but I've heard it said and I personally believe that it's the belief that gives the magic it's power. Stop allowing it to have power and it will no longer. The mind is a very powerful thing.

Regardless, if you ask Michael the arch angel for protection from malevolent intent and fallen angels he will do so, mean it when you ask.
By asking for assistance from angels you Will raise your vibration which is a good thing, improving all areas of your life. Asking for guidance for your highest good is also good practice.
If you know who has sent bad vibes to you send them white light to help make them a better person.
I have practiced magi ck for several years, and been around other people that use it. In my experience, you don't need to believe in electricity for it to shock you. People by intent or not, are always projecting energy at you, for good or bad. If you carry too much negativity in your own "vibration", it will gloom on to that. Also, people can use your own negativity against you occult wise. The best solution, long-term solution is to purify yourself completely. So that you are spiritually high and lower vibrational energy can't touch you. No matter if it is via conscious intent (magi ck) or not.
Having suffered from what I viewed as gratuitous attack from others (curse or not) since adolescence, I finally found a therapist who made a suggestion that seems to work.
"Visualize the person whom you have the problem with and starting with their heart, 'Make them pink'. " Then, in extreme cases, see the person glowing white as if they are lit from inside with a blinding white light, and all their surroundings.
