Voodoo? Santeria? What was it?

Today me and a few of my friends were walking around and we ended up by a bay(no one ever goes there, its secluded), they were all skipping rocks, and I was walking around on the sand observing things. I found some coconuts that were cracked open and started looking inside of them, my friend saw then she started yelling at me to stay away from the coconuts that they're a sacrifice of food and its bad energy and that its Santeria, I didn't really care about what she was saying so I kept picking them up, I also found some long lettuce leave, meat bones, chewed up corn cobs, the food wasn't spread around they were dumped on top of each other in the sand, as that point I didn't believe that it was Santeria I thought someone just ate food and dumped it there but then I found a full coconut that was unfrocked and there was red thread tied around it, I found that extremely odd, I wanted to take it home but my friends were like not to.
I do believe in voodoo and magic, I'm Wicca
I just not sure if that had anything to do with magic or not
If it did have to do with magic is it dark magic or Santeria?
Will it have any effect on me since I kept touching the coconuts?

It was probably Santeria. You'll be fine. Orishas are typically benign to work with -- and if you feel as if you might have brought on ill will, just go back with an offering of your own.

Neither Voodoo nor Santeria are primarily magical in nature. They are distinct religions which also accept the existence of supernatural intervention.

If it was involved with an African diaspora religion (such as Voodoo or Santeria), it was most likely a food offering to the spirits. In which case it would be disrespectful to move them.
