Yes, any invitation to the occult will leave you open to demonic activity. Run from it.

It's a load of childish superstitious bilge so the only dark paths are the ones you create yourself.

Honestly, I would say you shouldn't play with anything spiritual that you don't understand. That is, among other things, kind of rude.

But learning about Santeria will not suddenly make you spit pea soup.

Santeria is like any other Religious System, if there is evil there it's because you brought it with you. Historically it's a mixture of Roman Catholicism and African Paganism that developed from attempts by European Slave owners in the Americas to force their slave to convert to Christianity. In the Spanish held areas, like Cuba, the mixture became known as Santeria, in French held areas, like Haiti, it became known as Obeah, or, more commonly, Voudon or Voodoo. In point of fact most practitioners of Santeria or Obeah are also devout Catholics and revere God, Jesus, and the Saints just as any other Catholic would.

I don't like any spiritual path that involves having outside entities possess your body even for a short time. In my world view no entity that is truly good would ever want to do that.

I feel it is also dangerous because the forces invoked are of a material nature. This kind of energy tends to take the individual deeper into matter which is the opposite of our evolutionary path.

It would be wiser to chose a path that works w/ angelic energies. Pure intention (in service to others rather than service to the self) is critical in any magical work.
